Sen. Saud Anwar (D-South Windsor) — Connecticut’s resident lockdown czar, mask evangelist, and self-appointed Defender of Democracy — spent his Saturday playing Revolutionary War dress-up at Hartford’s “No Kings” rally.

At the event, Anwar went live on Facebook from the rally in Hartford like a man auditioning for a remake of Les Misérables — only minus the talent and singing. “We are standing up on this No Kings Day, making sure we stand up for democracy!” he proclaimed, blissfully unaware that the United States is, in fact, a constitutional republic, not a democracy. (Someone get the doctor a copy of The Federalist Papers, stat.) The rally probably should have been called “Know Things”.

Then came the photo op. There he was — Connecticut’s top mask schrill, grinning ear-to-ear beside a purple hair protester holding a sign that read, “Cholesterol, do your job,” next to a cheeseburger and a bucket of fried chicken. Charming! The man who once went on television demanding more government restrictions “to save lives” — the same state senator and doctor — is now applauding death jokes about political opponents. “First, do no harm,” unless there’s a punchline, apparently.

Scrolling through Anwar’s photo dump is like flipping through the world’s angriest Pinterest board:

• “Purge the enablers, not just Trump. 50 states, thousands of protests, millions of people—do the math!”
• “I.C.E. = Human Traffickers. Trump’s Nazi SS. I prefer my ice crushed.”

Lovely crowd, Senator. Nothing says “healing the nation” quite like fantasizing about death and cholesterol.

Even Libs of TikTok couldn’t stomach it, blasting the images as “absolutely disgusting” — and racking up over half a million views. When even internet trolls think you’ve gone too far, maybe put down the bullhorn and pick up a mirror.

Of course, Anwar’s hypocrisy has range. Back in 2020, he was on FOX 61 calling for more lockdowns, urging leaders to “use their authority” to stop the spread. Translation: “We need a king!” Now he’s out protesting “No Kings Day.” If hypocrisy were billable, he’d be Connecticut’s highest-paid doctor.

Not to be outdone, Sen. Julie Kushner (D-Danbury) decided to celebrate “democracy” by posting protest photos to Instagram, including one of a woman holding a sign that read, “No Kings Since 1776. 8647. Protesting is Patriotic. Free Palestine.”

Now, “8647” is restaurant slang for “86” — get rid of — and “47” likely refers to Trump running again in 2024. So the sign probably means “Get rid of Trump.” But with “Free Palestine” jammed awkwardly underneath, it reads less like civic engagement and more like a command to erase an opponent or the kind of slogan you’d find carved into a padded wall. Coming from a lawmaker, that kind of rhetoric isn’t just tone-deaf — it’s reckless.

So there you have it: one senator cheering on death by cheeseburger, another amplifying a protest sign that doubles as a Trump and a foreign policy threat. Connecticut Democrats really covered the spectrum — from bad judgement to worse optics.

Turns out, the “No Kings” crowd doesn’t hate power — they just hate not having it.
