For years, conservatives were told to calm down. To stop being hysterical. To quit seeing communists behind every chalkboard.

Turns out they weren’t imagining things.

The communists aren’t hiding in the shadows — they’re handing out awards, giving speeches in churches, and openly recruiting students and teachers into their political movement that names its enemy, calls for resistance, and targets “the billionaire class.”

And yes — it’s happening in Connecticut public schools.

At the December 13 People’s World Amistad Awards, an event organized by People’s World, the official publication of the Communist Party USA, educators and students were celebrated for their activism under the banner of “Working Class Unity to defend our rights and fight for our future.”

If that sounds like it was lifted directly from a 1930s Soviet pamphlet, it’s because it basically was.

Meet the Communist Union Activist Grooming the Next Generation

One of the featured speakers was Leslie Blatteau, a New Haven public school teacher and president of the New Haven Federation of Teachers, who addressed the audience alongside students and fellow union members. She didn’t talk about civics, critical thinking, or academic achievement. She talked about “resistance,” “liberation,” and class warfare.

The message was unmistakable: this wasn’t about education. It was about recruitment.

“Our target is clear,” Blatteau told the crowd. “Our target is the billionaire class and the oligarchs who profit off of ICE contracts, who profit off of tax cuts.”

Just to be clear: this is a sitting teachers’ union president, speaking to students, explicitly naming a political enemy and framing public education as a front in a class war.

That’s not teaching. That’s indoctrination.

Blatteau went on to emphasize that teachers and students must be “united in the resistance,” declaring that “our survival and our liberation is interconnected.”

Resistance to what, exactly? The Constitution? Federal law? Parents who don’t want Marxist slogans replacing math homework?

She didn’t specify — because within activist circles, that part is assumed. The targets are anyone on the other side.

If a Republican teacher stood in front of their students and said, “Our target is the activist left and the bureaucrats destroying America,” they’d be fired before lunch. But when the rhetoric comes wrapped in the word “solidarity,” it’s apparently called education.

Students Trained, Not Taught

The students themselves echoed the same talking points — not surprisingly, given who was coaching them.

Melanie, a senior at Wilbur Cross High School and a leader with Connecticut Students for a Dream, told the audience that she had spent the year speaking “in classrooms, auditoriums, with legislators, with the governor,” learning “how powerful it can be when young people decide not to stay silent.”

Not learning. Speaking. Organizing.

“When young people organize,” she said, “things change — conversations change, policies change, communities change.”

That wasn’t a slip of the tongue. It was the objective.

Students aren’t there to be educated. They’re there to be deployed.

This wasn’t spontaneous student activism. It was adult-directed grooming — teachers shaping students to push the outcomes the adults want, then applauding when the kids repeat the script.

The kids didn’t set the agenda. The teachers did.

Education, Reframed as Political Struggle

Blatteau framed the role of educators not as instructors, but as participants in a broader struggle. Teachers, she explained, are connected to students not just in the classroom, but in shared political purpose.

“Our work is interconnected, our lives are interconnected,” she said. “None of us is safe, and all of us must be united in the resistance and the protection of all of our students.”

In other words, education isn’t meant to be neutral. It’s meant to take sides.

And students aren’t meant to sit and learn. They’re meant to join the fight.

The Question Parents Should Be Asking

Parents are told public schools are neutral spaces. That teachers are merely facilitators. That students are being taught how to think, not what to think.

In practice, classrooms are being repurposed as political staging grounds — with communist activists setting the agenda and teachers helping run the operation.

Teachers are openly naming ideological enemies. Students are being trained to organize. Political movements are celebrating their growing foothold inside public schools.

This isn’t an accident. It’s the plan.

It didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen quietly. It happened because the adults in charge decided activism mattered more than education — and because no one stopped them.
