H.B. 5043, An Act Concerning Convertible Pistols, Unfinished Frames or Unfinished Lower Receivers, Voluntary Relinquishment of Firearms and Ammunition, and Refundability of Permits, just passed the Connecticut legislature.
I voted no on H.B. 5043 because it is another anti-gun, anti-freedom bill that punishes law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to stop violent criminals.
Session on May 5 continued overnight, with debate leading into the early morning hours of May 6, with the ‘Glock Ban Bill’ H.B. 5043 starting around 3:25 a.m. That is not transparency. That is not responsible governing. That is how controversial legislation gets jammed through when the public is asleep and lawmakers are exhausted.
That should outrage people.
And the hypocrisy is impossible to ignore. During the same legislative session, the Democratic majority also advanced S.B. 503, legislation expanding parole opportunities for individuals convicted of crimes committed under the age of 26.
So while violent offenders are being given more leniency, law-abiding citizens are being hit with more restrictions.
That tells you exactly where this majority’s priorities are.
We are told these are ‘common sense’ changes and every year these restrictions get broader, the government gets more aggressive, and the rights of responsible citizens are chipped away further.
I said it on the Senate floor and I will say it again: I do not believe this stops here.
Connecticut residents deserve policies that target criminals, protect victims, and respect constitutional rights, not performative anti-gun legislation.
This bill sends a clear message: if you are a law-abiding gun owner in Connecticut, your rights are not respected, and you are not welcome.
That is unacceptable.
