Today, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong (D) announced that the State of Connecticut has opened an investigation into the online gaming and chat platform Roblox following reports of child exploitation and harm.

Tong asserted that Roblox had "built an online pedophile playground."

Tong’s investigation seeks to determine what Roblox knew about widespread child exploitation on its platform, how it has profited from it, and what it has or has not done to protect children.

He promised to use the "full weight" of law enforcement authority to ensure accountability and protect children online.

Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli said parents should not have to worry about their children being groomed or exploited online. He noted that Roblox users being "under the age of 18" creates "an environment for predators to take advantage of unsuspecting youth."

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R) said lawmakers are "seeing far too many cases of children being exploited online" and added, "we have a responsibility to take meaningful steps to protect them."

State Rep. David Rutigliano (R) said parents deserve to know that "every reasonable step is being taken to protect" their children from "predators, exploitation, and harmful content" online.

Let's hope they mean what they say.

Because if they truly care about protecting children online from "widespread child exploitation" and "pedophile playgrounds," they should immediately add The Trevor Project to the list.

The Trevor Project runs a website and app called TrevorSpace.

A couple years ago, a troubling article exposed how easily minors can access sexually explicit chatrooms on TrevorSpace to communicate directly with adults about sex, gender, and virtually anything else. The site officially lists its age range as 13 to 24.

The National Review (NR) reported shocking discussions taking place in those chatrooms:

"In some cases, users under 18 spoke with adult users about sexual preferences, including BDSM and polyamory. In chats reviewed by NR, minors and adults discussed sexual fetishes, including “gokkun” — the act of drinking multiple male ejaculations from a container, “bukkake” — the fetish of being covered with ejaculate, “scat play” — deriving sexual gratification from fantasies involving feces, and “forniphilia” — a form of bondage in which a person’s body is incorporated into furniture for sexual acts."

It takes less than a minute to set up a profile, and there is virtually no authentication required.

The first thing users see is a "quick exit" screen.

You can use TrevorSpace to explore a wide range of sexually explicit topics, themed clubs, and connect directly with thousands of people.

For instance, if you’re trans and in the "agere" community (where people temporarily "age regress" to a younger, childlike mental state as a coping mechanism), there is a special matchmaking club just for you. You can even find a "caregiver" (aka "cg") to help you act out your fantasy. Below is a screenshot from a user who claims to be 13 years old but says they can "regress to about 3-8 years old" and is looking for a male "cg."

How easy do you think it would be for a child like this to be exploited?

There are 69 pages of clubs — clubs for people who like to be tickled and those who like to tickle others, clubs for every gender identity imaginable, clubs for finding sexual partners "in real life" by location, and plenty of clubs for LGBTQ+ people who want to become politically active (e.g., Communism, Marxism, Antifa).

Remember, the website explicitly connects minors as young as 13 with adults up to age 24.

And with no meaningful age verification required to create a free TrevorSpace account, you could be talking to anyone of any age.

If Attorney General Tong, Commissioner Cafferelli, Sen. Cicarella, and Rep. Rutigliano genuinely want to protect children from online exploitation, they should immediately add The Trevor Project and TrevorSpace to their investigation.

Yes, we know it might be a tough sell, given how much the political left loves and supports The Trevor Project. It was founded in 1998 during the Clinton administration and received prominent visibility and support from the Obama administration.

The NEA — the teachers union that operates in Greenwich — along with Greenwich public schools, have supported the use of Trevor Project resources. Even the Town of Greenwich still refers at-risk youth to the organization.

It is difficult to understand what, if anything, The Trevor Project is doing to prevent grooming and sexual exploitation on TrevorSpace.

And don’t get us started on the false premise that gender-affirming care equals suicide prevention — because that claim is simply wrong.
