In a recent video Congressman Jim Himes in a very animated way presented his version of misleading facts attacking President Trump
His speech was nothing more than false information with the intention to mislead the listener to accepting his statements as true. This propaganda is the standard operating procedure of dictatorships but has no place in our democracy.
Tariffs
His first attack is on tariffs against our largest trading partner, which he does not identify. It happens to be Mexico.
Goods that are covered by USMCA, which comprise 85% of the goods enter the US tax free. Non-compliant autos and other goods pay 25%. However, if a non-compliant auto contains US made parts the value of those parts is deducted from the cost used to calculate the duty. This tends to reduce the tariff with US component autos to about 15%. Vehicles by foreign manufacturers with no US components are taxed at 25%. Steel and aluminum are taxed at a higher rate.
On the other side Mexico also imposes duties.
This far from the tragic disaster presented by Jim Himes. It also results in more US jobs for auto workers by encouraging US manufacturing.
Tax Cuts
Himes also ranted about the effect of tax cuts on the US deficit of what he describes as $2 trillion and its effect on the bond market. This number is being spread over 10 years so only a small amount of this gets funded each year. Considering that we have $40 trillion in debt this is a very small number. What is completely negated are the benefits of no tax on tips and overtime. That money is recycled into the economy creating jobs and taxpayers.
Himes also neglects to mention Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, better known as the Inflation Creation Act. Huge amounts of money were wasted on reckless government spending. Biden a Democrat gets a Himes Pass for his mistakes.
Immigration
Himes in his elitist rant talks about how Trumps policies are hurting our society because there are no illegals to work in, nursing homes, restaurants and construction.
Nursing homes have skilled nurses and nursing assistants, physical therapists and physicians to take care of the medical needs of the patients. According to Himes, I guess the people that serve the food, clean the floors and toilets, wash the sheets and all of the other menial tasks must be illegals. Apparently in his elitist view is that no US citizen would do any of these menial jobs.
I have personally treated hotel workers, as patients, in NYC. They are all citizens or legal residents. They are unionized with good salaries and benefits. They do all the services in the hotels from the front desk, bellman, waiters, busboys, bar tenders, room service attendants, chambermaids, trades based services, security and every other job needed.
In Himes mind restaurants cannot function without illegals. Although it is true that there are illegals working in restaurants, in at least some instances working class Americans are shut out of these jobs because the illegals work for less. The purpose of illegals should not be to undercut American workers.
Construction by non-union contractors do employ illegals. If illegals did not exist then citizens or legal residents would be taking these jobs at a higher wage and increased cost for construction.
Himes has an elitist view that illegals are a permanent and necessary underclass who do the dirty jobs of our society.
Hime’s view on illegals is in sharp contrast to that of President Obama who deported 5.3 million illegals. Trumps deportation numbers are less than half those of Obama and yet Trump is being vilified for deporting far fewer illegals. Only 250,00 illegals were deported in FY 2024, and 320 ,000 illegals were deported in FY 2025. Approximately 2 million illegals left voluntarily under Trump.
There have been various claims, regarding the amount of illegals who entered the US, under Biden, ranging from between 10-20 million illegals. That massive influx of unvetted illegals including, terrorists, criminals, gang members and possibly enemy combatants has created a huge problem for our society. No other country has such a large illegals population. Himes is also silent on this issue.
Iran Military Action
Himes ranted about how this was an unnecessary military action and has contributed to higher oil prices. As the ranking member of the Intelligence Committee he must be aware of the impending development of nuclear bombs on the part of Iran.
Unlike other countries the Iranian theocracy that rules the country is dedicated to Jihad. They are the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism throughout the world. Their terrorist proxies have been responsible for the deaths of American soldiers.
A nuclear armed Iran would have destabilized the Middle East. They already have ballistic missiles that can reach Western Europe. It is only a matter of time before they could have reached the U.S. Because Iran has such low regard for the lives of their citizens that the death of their citizens in a nuclear war is an acceptable loss.
Hime also goes into a frenzy regarding oil prices. He mentions that oil was down to approximately $60 per barrel just before the Iran Military Action but he fails the mention the high price of oil during the Biden administration which peaked at $120 per barrel and averaged about $80 per barrel. Under Trump, prior to the Iran Action the price per barrel did fall to around $60 per gallon. At the height of the war the price of crude oil did rise to about $110 per gallon and is now below $90. Oil peaked because of the blockade of the Straits of Hormuz. The blockade is mostly gone, and oil is now flowing to the straits but at a reduced rate. In addition there is Gulf oil flowing through pipelines to the Red Sea. The U.S. has now taken control of Venezuelan oil and we now control approximately 20% of the world’s oil. We are not dependent on Middle East oil.
Based on those numbers without a new escalation of the conflict we will not see the astronomical oil prices that Himes has predicted.
Conclusion
Himes in a very brief, but well executed, video blasted away at Trump and his policies. It is great propaganda that is factually incorrect and misleading. This article has repudiated all of Hime’s false allegations, presented in his video, against President Trump.
As the Democrats continue to shift left they are likely to send out more of these well executed false narratives.
In the end the truth prevails.
