There is a common, tired element that ostensibly seasons many editorials that grace these pages. The dynamic is not exclusive to Connecticut Centinal but seems to permeate every conservative media platform. It contains all of the virtue and all of the language and all of the ‘knowledge’ that has transcended the spectrum for millenia. And good on that. Those rest on tried and timeless principles. Yet this element lacks the salt that it is supposed to bear, salt that we are instructed to preserve. As a result, I would argue that we have become nothing short of 21st century Pharisees.
One of the Christ’s primary charges against the Jewish authorities was centered on their practice of paying lip service to the true concept of righteousness - hypocrisy, if you will… as they presumed a privileged and exclusive conduit to God… while not recognizing, let alone removing, the log in their own eye.
We hear a constant drumbeat, an insufferable clamor indicting the Left for all of the ills that befall Connecticut and the nation. It may be argued that every issue is political. And that every issue is also spiritual. It doesn’t take genius political savvy to see that apart from the ceaseless emotional exploitation, the Left’s conflict with the patriarchy, specifically the spiritual patriarchy, serves as their inspiration.
Conversely, every single political issue is seemingly examined by the Right through a lens of piety - every one of them. And our answer, the default answer, is that we need to elect more conservatives to affect the legal paradigm in order to restore the Republic. That from City Hall, we can then drive the culture back to the proper perspective, our righteous perspective.
While our premise may be technically correct, there are countless obstacles in place - aside from the fundamental that “culture precedes politics“, which we prefer to disregard. Precedents, wrought from our failed responsibilities and which cannot be circumnavigated (iniquities, if you will), litter the landscape. We succumb to political correctness, concede the field and then bitch about a subsequent corollary with dry, editorial sermons. Our ‘proper understanding’ of history, religion and philosophy, which is taken for granted as academic, has intrinsic flaws, and is both disturbingly arrogant and bland. There is a ‘well- meaning-ness’ to all of the solutions that we prescribe for society that never addresses the root. And which serves as self-sabotage of the mission – while we claim and project our innocence and our station on the body at large, excusing our complicity – the log in our own eye.
Shame on us. This has come to haunt us deeply, essentially blossoming into a personal contempt for our own… and a foothold for the devil as we project an unseemly pretentiousness about all things good.
We allowed it… in fact, facilitated it… out of expedience, out of peace, out of convenience, out of compromise. With a ‘holier than thou’ perspective, yet too weak to stand, we failed to reject the transgressions, we abandoned our responsibility and are complicit to the cultural perversion and system corruption. There are numerous examples of us ‘stoning’ our own prophets. Again, shame on
us.
Rather than the perpetual and pathetic laments about the opposition’s crimes, how and when shall we grow up and reckon this?
