A Greenwich teenager arranged a candlelight vigil at Town Hall to honor and remember Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was brutally gunned down at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
The vigil, approved by First Selectman Fred Camillo, will take place September 10, 2026, at 7 p.m. in front of Greenwich Town Hall, 101 Field Point Road. Attendees are asked to bring a battery-operated candle and a friend to help honor Charlie “with a flame that will never go out.”
The event was organized by Sophia DiFilippo, who is part of Club America, the high school program created by Turning Point USA to promote freedom-loving American values, free thinking, and grassroots activism. Connecticut has 16 chapters so far, including Brunswick School, Darien High School, and activism clubs in Greenwich and Stamford.

Once the flyer started circulating online, it brought out the worst in people. They attacked, mocked, and condemned Charlie as a “racist, misogynist” and “an evil POS” who “preached hate.” Of course, hate is defined by this crew as “differing opinions.” The haters acted the same way toward people who came to Charlie’s defense, suggesting “far right bigots … should be shunned and exiled from society.” Gee, how inclusive of them.

“Shame on Greenwich for permitting this,” wrote one woman, calling the vigil “a disgusting symbol of prejudice and hate.”
People said the event was “inappropriate on public town property” and that Town Hall should be neutral and not host partisan events.
Who gets to decide what is neutral? A lot of people think it is inappropriate, for instance, to celebrate transgenderism on town property. So should we cancel the pride celebration and transgender pride flag-raising? Or can everyone enjoy freedom of speech at Town Hall?

They attacked Sophia’s mom, Jennifer Spaziante, for defending her daughter from the ugly comments. One commenter even suggested that Sophia’s event was “reminiscent of ceremonies that were run by the national socialists in Weimar Germany.”
What kind of person would make such a gross comparison, suggesting a vigil organized by a local teenager is akin to what happened in Nazi Germany? Come on, people, get a grip!

One person whose Facebook profile ironically says “always bee kind” called for doxxing every single member of the Greenwich chapter of Club America.

And one guy hoped that everyone who attends the vigil gets shot in the neck just like Charlie.

Helluva showing there, Democrats.
A conservative, patriotic teenager wanted to do something to honor a person who was important to her, and all you guys do is hate on her, trash her mom, and hope that anyone who thinks like that meets a gruesome, untimely death.

Here's a formula for you...DEMOCRATS=JIHADISTS!
