The craziest thing happened on my ride to Tod’s Point Beach in Greenwich on Tuesday.
I was waiting my turn at the stop sign where Sound Beach Avenue meets Shore Road. It was my turn next — except I nearly got run over before I could even pull out.
A motorcade of black vehicles came racing down Shore Road from Stamford. The first six to eight cars blew through the stop sign at 35–40 mph and headed toward the beach. One of the cars finally slowed enough for me to turn onto Shore Road. I was headed the same direction, but at the speed limit. The cars ahead of me kept flying down the road, crossing the double yellow lines in a completely reckless way.
They hit the causeway to the beach, where the road narrows between two stone walls and the speed limit drops to 15 mph. That didn’t slow the fleet of black vehicles at all. They kept racing straight to the beach as if there were some kind of emergency.
At the gatehouse, I reported the dangerous driving. A woman with the group who identified herself as “Sofia” stood next to the beach staffer to help scan guest passes for the people in the vehicles. From the gatehouse you could see the motorcade cars speeding through the parking lot, ignoring another stop sign.
Little children play here. These people had absolutely no concern for that.
Then the motorcade parked in handicapped spots by the concession area and blocked the active roadway to unload beach chairs and supplies. How respectful. They only moved the cars after they saw me approaching to take photos.
The most expensive car in the group was a Bentley Bentayga — an ultra-luxury SUV with an MSRP starting around $200,000 and climbing well past $350,000 depending on year, engine, and options.
The Bentley driver told me they were racing “VIPs from the UN to the beach” for an event. That was what the hurry was about: very important diplomats needed a little fun and sun. Sofia later clarified there was no formal event. The VIPs were just enjoying a sunny day at the beach. She also apologized for the reckless driving.
A man who led the driver team told me he had “already fired” the driver who almost ran me over. He seemed kind and sympathetic.
Except he didn’t really fire that driver. The guy was still standing at the beach when I left.
The VIPs took over a pavilion, set up a dozen lounge chairs and even brought their own umbrellas. A woman sitting in one of the lounge chairs told me I was not allowed to take her picture. It’s a public beach. And one of her motorcade drivers had nearly killed me a few minutes earlier. Of course I was going to take her picture.
After she spoke with someone who may have been a UN VIP, Sofia followed me to the parking lot. She and one of the drivers begged me not to tell anyone what had just happened. They even offered to buy me a snack or a bottle of water at the concession stand. I politely declined.
I said I was probably the wrong person to almost kill because I’m not exactly fond of the globalists at the UN or their evil “one world” agenda.
Doug Bandow detailed the UN agenda in a 1985 Cato Institute Policy Analysis report entitled, "Totalitarian Global Management: The UN's War on the Liberal International Economic Order":
"Under the control of the numerous Third World nations, the UN has been actively promoting a comprehensive and totalitarian system of global management. Attacked by UN ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick as a philosophy of “global socialism,” it is that and much more. The overriding UN ideology is one of international control of natural, financial, and informational resources, as well as the global regulation of economic and even cultural activities."
Those same socialist instincts show up in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Many of the goals sound wonderful until you read the fine print: more centralized control over land, water, food, energy, employment, and development, along with ample wealth-redistribution across nations. Climate change propaganda is treated as settled science. People will be lectured about consumption, carbon footprints, and “equity.” And UN agencies, especially FAO, have officially recommended insects as sustainable food.
The real story of these socialist and communist systems is two classes of people: the party elites, and everyone else. In the Soviet Union, party officials had special stores, better hospitals, and cars ordinary citizens could not touch. In Cuba, Castro-era leaders lived in luxury while workers were paid a pittance. In Venezuela, Chavista officials and their families kept country-club lives while the middle class scavenged for dinner. In North Korea, the ruling family eats like royalty while the public is starved.
The pattern never changes.
So it seemed rather fitting that a high-end motorcade sped through Old Greenwich to get UN VIPs to the beach, ignoring the rules the rest of us are expected to follow — then begged me not to tell anyone.
