Recent polls by Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac colleges state that Governor Ned Lamont has a comfortable double-digit lead over Republican nominee Ryan Fazio. But it is unlikely these polls are accurate.
Why?
Because Governor Lamont and his handlers don’t believe them. Otherwise, they would not be running attack ads accusing Ryan Fazio of supporting ICE and being Donald Trump’s handmaiden. The internal polls conducted by the Lamont campaign – which are much more accurate that the liberal push polls from Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac – must show a much tighter race.
Unfortunately, Fazio thus far is running a typical Connecticut Republican campaign that concedes that since the race is unwinnable, he may as well be pleasant about it. His ads are either feel-good ads or make silly statements that he is going to reduce property taxes. Connecticut voters may be liberal, but they are not stupid. Property taxes are determined by elected town officials, not the Governor.
But Fazio should not just throw in the towel as he is presently doing. He has enough cash - he received $18,000,000 from Connecticut’s generous public financing program - to run aggressive attack ads against Lamont on the following issues:
1. The Death of Liam Rivera. Liam Rivera was a two-year old from Stamford who had his head bashed in and his body stuffed in a plastic bag by an illegal immigrant, Ismalej-Gomez, because this illegal was not turned over to ICE for deportation but was released to the community after he had previously broken Liam Rivera’s arm.
Why is this poor child dead?
Because of Lamont’s policies.
And while he is at it, Fazio should point out the hectamillionaire Lamont’s only contact with illegal immigrants is when they are wearing leaf blowers in Lamont’s tony Greenwich neighborhood.
2. Forcing “affordable” housing on towns. The Lamont administration is forcing towns to build unwanted apartment complexes. Even liberal Democrats in my hometown of Fairfield are irritated about this. Fazio needs to run ads that say if Lamont wins, expect more of this. And then a few years, expect for the taxpayers to bail out the developers when they complain they can’t rent out the apartments unless the renters are subsidized by the taxpayers.
3. Allowing boys pretending to be girls to participate in women’s sports. The Lamont administration is pushing to allow trans females (males with XY chromosomes who believe they are female) to compete is women’s sports. If this is allowed, women’s sports will be destroyed in Connecticut in five to ten years. Presently, three Connecticut high school girls are suing to prevent this.
4. Corruption. Lamont and the Democrats have made corruption an art form. Ballot stuffing and no-bid contracts are only the beginning. Connecticut is not called Corrupticut for nothing.
Lamont recently allocated $250,000 to pay the political hack Miguel Cardona to chair the useless Connecticut Career Pathway Commission.
Lamont and his feckless Attorney General William Tong looked the other way while State Deputy Budget Direct Kosta Diamantis shook down contractors for kickbacks in order to get state contracts. When federal charges resulted in Diamantis being convicted on twenty-one charges, he fled to Greece. Now he is asking the Connecticut taxpayers to send a monthly $6618 pension check to Greece while Tong is “reviewing the situation.” You can’t make this up! Tong will somehow figure out how to send him the check while denying knowledge of his whereabouts (Okay. I made this up, but it will not surprise me if this happens.)
These are not 50-50 issues. Seventy percent of Connecticut residents would agree with Fazio if he pushed the above issues.
Fazio probably knows this but is afraid to mention them in aggressive ads because he knows the full weight of the Lamont campaign and the liberal media will come down on him. But if that is the case, he should not have run for Governor. Connecticut has among the highest taxes and slowest job growth in the country thanks to the Democrats. Fazio is our nominee. He may still lose if he fights aggressively. But at least he would go down swinging, not go down groveling.
