With early voting underway and Election Day just over a week away, Jack Perry has added another $70,000 of his own money to his campaign. That brings the total he has put in to $335,000 as of October 10th. That is more than twice what my campaign will spend under the rules of the Citizens’ Election Program – a system created for the purpose of leveling the playing field for legislative candidates.

I do not begrudge anyone the right to spend their own money. But voters should see clearly what this is: an attempt to buy a State Senate seat. Mr. Perry presents himself as a working-class candidate who feels the pain of high taxes and the cost of living in Connecticut. It is hard to reconcile that description with someone willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal money to buy a seat that pays a base salary of around $40,000 a year.

    Per SEEC

The contrast is straightforward. Mr. Perry is using his own money to try to buy this election. My campaign is funded by small donations from individuals who live in our community and the public financing system used by most General Assembly candidates. Hundreds of neighbors chose to support me because they know me and the work I put in for them. No corporations. No thousands of dollars at a time.

More important is how that money is being spent. Almost all of it is going to negative ads filled with false claims about my votes on taxes and electric rates. Those claims do not match the roll calls or the floor debate. They are designed to blame me for the results of one-party Democratic control in Hartford when the truth is the exact opposite. He is not using the money to explain how he would solve Connecticut’s problems. A video documenting the specific claims and the corresponding votes is available here: https://youtu.be/9ndqWqIfSjQ and more detail is available at https://sampsonforct.com/truth.

The punishing cost of living in this state is the direct result of that one-party rule. I have been the most consistent and effective check against that agenda, leading the opposition to increased spending and taxes, introducing legislation to lower electric rates by removing hidden taxes on ratepayers, and standing alone when necessary to defend taxpayers. My record is public. I have shown, with the facts and the  public record, that Mr. Perry has repeatedly made false statements about my votes, most recently at our debate on October 20. The video documenting those claims and the corresponding roll calls is available for anyone to review.

Early voting is open now. I encourage every voter to review the SEEC filings, watch the video, and decide for themselves whether they want a State Senator who is trying to buy the seat or one who is accountable to the people who live here.
