Groups of parents, grandparents, concerned citizens and children gathered together this past weekend waving “Don’t Mess With Our Kids” flags at every Capitol throughout the United States plus Washington, DC. The pink and blue themed events are a call for people to stand up for the protection of children. Taken from an effective uprising in Peru, #DontMessWithOurKids has spread throughout the United States thanks to Pastor Jenny Donnelly who leads Her Voice Movement, a ministry out of Oregon. The goal of April 13th is to bring people together to pray about protecting children from the current trends aggressively sexualizing the youth in media, music, entertainment, education and government.
Ilona Hersel, the Connecticut state captain for the Hartford event, along with men and women from her Monday night prayer group and others from throughout Connecticut shared testimony, information and action steps. The two hundred people in attendance also participated in worship songs and took communion together despite the high winds, low temperature and occasional light rain. The crowd left with a mandate to keep the prayers going by forming local small groups of 2-10 people to pray together for the children monthly in their towns. The next large gathering will be in October when all states will get together in Washington, DC.
