House Speaker Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) said that he spoke with Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan about the new charges on Tuesday, July 29th, and privately expressed his concerns.

Ritter issued the following statement:

“I have spoken to Rep. Allie-Brennan about the recent charges and have expressed my concerns with him privately,” Ritter said Tuesday. “Raghib will take some personal time away from the legislature over the next month to deal with the legal, political and personal ramifications — we are not in session and committees are not meeting. I will reconnect with him after Labor Day to talk further.”

State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan (D-Bethel) turned himself into the Bethel Police Department today in response to a new arrest warrant for larceny in the 6th degree.

Allie-Brennan was expected to turn himself last week, but instead showed up today after police reportedly started "looking for him" according to Kevin Rennie.

This comes after Allie-Brennan's arrest in June for allegedly stealing items from Bethel Target; he was apparently "known" to the folks at Target, so it appears to be a pattern.

Allie-Brennan currently serves as the Chief Majority Whip, and is still assigned to the Energy and Technology Committee, the General Law Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, according to his House Dems web page.

Thus far, the House Democrats have declined to comment on or make any changes to Allie-Brennan's committee assignments.

This stands in contrast to other democrats who got arrested, including:

• Robin Comey (D-Branford), who was removed from committee assignments after her 2023 DUI arrest;
• Geoff Luxenberg (D-Manchester), who was removed from committee assignments after his 2023 DUI arrest;
• Aundre Bumgardner (D-Groton), who was removed from committee assignments after his 2025 DUI arrest.

Perhaps that will change after this incident?

Allie-Brennan is due in court on August 5th.
