Attorney General William Tong released the following statement regarding the letter received by the Office of the Attorney General from United States Attorney General Pam Bondi identifying Connecticut as a sanctuary jurisdiction.
“I can confirm that the Office of the Attorney General did receive a letter from Attorney General Bondi falsely stating that Connecticut engages in ‘sanctuary policies.’ There is nothing in our laws or statutes that says Connecticut is a ‘sanctuary’ state. We are not," claimed Tong, once again denying that the recently strengthened Trust Act makes the state a sanctuary for illegals.
"Trump’s own administration certified Connecticut’s compliance with 8 U.S.C. § 1373 in 2017. Nothing has changed to alter that certification, and we will explain that in our response. Any claim or suggestion that Connecticut has violated or is not in compliance with federal law is false. Connecticut is prepared to pursue all legal rights and remedies to defend our sovereignty and the people and families of Connecticut from federal overreach,” said Attorney General Tong.
Republicans Sen. Rob Sampson and Sen. Stephen Harding previously said Connecticut is not just a regular sanctuary state, it's a "super sanctuary state" because "Connecticut Democrats prohibit local and state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities – including for those who have been convicted for violent felonies."
Indeed, ICE has picked up at least three criminal illegals in Stamford in the month of August, including:

Meanwhile, dozens of anti-ICE activists protested in Tong's hometown of Stamford last night, upset about "ICE terror" and demanding "no local collaboration with ICE" after two immigrants were picked up by federal officials at the Stamford Courthouse earlier this week.
The protest was organized by Stamford Norwalk United with Immigrants, which formed in June, and featured a special appearance by Juan Fonseca Tapia, who just had an encounter with ICE agents after doxxing and allegedly following them in Brewster, NY.
Democrat State Reps. Matthew Blumenthal, Hubert Delany, and Jonathan Jacobson joined the anti-ICE activists in their protest, and Matty even suggested the state "could potentially limit access to federal officials at state courthouses" to further throw a wrench into federal law enforcement efforts.
The anti-ICE activists got trolled, though, by this very happy couple playing "Ice Ice Baby" loudly from the car, all decked out in their pro-ICE hats -- because most people prefer that criminal illegals be removed from the country.
The anti-ICE protesters are planning yet another pop-up protest tonight in Norwalk in conjunction with Good Trouble Norwalk and Indivisible.
But their crowds are definitely thinning.
