Stolen valor Senator Richard Blumenthal held yet another press conference about "increasing numbers of reports excessive use of force, detention of United States citizens, and other really abusive and potentially illegal tactics by ICE" and "inhumane conditions" -- but this time he had State Rep. Corey Paris at his side.
He described ICE's tactics as "more characteristic of a police state and a totalitarian regime, than of a democracy."
He further said that the "abusive tactics" used to target Corey Paris served as the impetus for the new investigation he's calling for by the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
The "abusive tactics" amounted to ICE tagging the DOJ on a tweet from Libs of TikTok in which Libs accused Paris of doxxing ICE agents. Blumenthal said all Paris was doing was his job as a public official, warning his constituents to stay safe.
"But then ICE reposting one of the worst to the Department of Justice with the really threatening warning 'charge him'," said Blumenthal. "It is that abuse of power and trust by ICE authorities that is probably the most recent and one of the most troubling of the potential wrongdoing and improprieties within ICE. There needs to be a reckoning and accountability for ICE."
Dick seems especially triggered about the size of ICE's budget thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, how many new agents will be hired, and whether those agents will be financially rewarded for arresting more illegals.
He later added that deporting dangerous criminal illegals does not require the use of "excessive force" or "violating the rights" of citizens by using masked agents and unmarked cars and by "seizing people from churches, their homes, their doctor's offices."
Blumenthal turned it over to Paris, a former Clinton Global Initiative employee, who provided some rather well-rehearsed remarks.
Paris said he thinks often of that "Maryland dad" Kilmar Abrego Garcia being potentially deported to Uganda. And he thinks it's really unfair to target elected officials just for standing up for illegals.
"My biggest concern right now is for the safety of all people who might be targeted, whether justly or unjustly," said Paris. "Yes, we should get rid of violent offenders in our country, those violent offenders all aren't only from South American countries. They're not only from Central American countries, they're not only Brown folks. Those violent offenders can come from any country in the world so long as they are an undocumented immigrant in this country."
He said that "every person" is protected under the US Constitution, though illegals do not have all of the same rights as citizens under the US Constitution.
"Above all else," said Paris. "We protect all of our citizens, whether they be Republican or Democrat, no matter their race, no matter their creed, no matter their immigration status.... We do deserve a just country, and that is the only thing that I've ever fought for in my political career."
So he's going to keep on fighting for a "just society" -- "just" being another term for "equitable."
The Executive Director of Connecticut Students for a Dream, Tabitha Sookdeo, spoke next. She claimed that Connecticut residents do not want the "cruelty" of removing illegal aliens from the state.
She claimed that illegals pay over $96 billion in taxes, Social Security and Medicare to programs they will never be able to use, but that instead provide retirement and health care "safety nets" for American citizens.
She thinks the funding for ICE in the Big Beautiful Bill is meant to simply "terrorize immigrant communities" so she's calling on legislators to protect illegals "from militarized and immigration enforcement" for immigration enforcement operations.
Next up was Tanya Kimball, the Senior Director of Programs from IRIS, who came to stand in solidarity with her democrat pals.
She accused ICE of "racial profiling" by targeting people "based on skin color and languages people are speaking."
Blumenthal took the mic again at the end to promise he would "move quickly" on this investigation to ensure that ICE "is held accountable." He further commended Paris as the "face and voice of courage and strength" after ICE "elevated" what he Blumenthal described as "sickening violent rhetoric."
