On September 3, 2025, a group of democrat state senators sent a letter to the Honorable Raheem Mullins, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, urging the court to adopt multiple measures to further protect illegal immigrants from getting picked up by ICE inside courthouses.

The purpose of the democrats' letter was to "express our outrage and disappoint" after an illegal was picked up inside the Stamford courthouse on August 11, 2025, and to pressure the Judicial Branch into adopting protocols to prevent such situations from happening in the future after what democrats are calling "an extreme escalation by ICE" in Connecticut.

The democrats said that courthouses are supposed to be a "safe haven and vital resource" and a "cornerstone of our democracy" for everyone, including illegals.

They further believe it is "reprehensible" that "people who are seeking the benefits of their constitutional rights" are being "apprehended by masked an unidentified ICE agents" who are allegedly using courthouses like "mouse traps."

The democrats are warning that illegals are now avoiding courthouses out of fear of getting apprehended -- which the democrats say has a "chilling effect on justice."

"We are aware that our Trust Act does not prohibit ICE agents from entering the public spaces of a courthouse," write the democrats. "We also understand that under the Trust Act, judicial marshals are not to prevent or assist ICE in the apprehension of individuals in the courthouse."

But this doesn't prevent the Judicial Branch from adopting other "safeguards" to protect illegals, argue the democrats.

So the democrats senators offered up a bunch of suggestions, including:

  • Banning law enforcement officers, including ICE agents, from arresting or detaining any person on any floor of a federal courthouse where judicial proceedings are occurring, including in hallways and public restrooms;
  • Limiting ICE agents to only make arrests inside a courthouse if it occurs within the space occupied for US Citizenship and Immigration Services;
  • Prohibiting arrests inside or near a courthouse without a judicial warrant;
  • Removing the information posted online on the short calendar docket to protect the identity of litigants (and their immigration status);
  • Move court proceedings online so illegals don't have to risk a chance encounter with federal agents;
  • Require federal agents to register with security before entering a courthouse and provide their name, agency and badge number;
  • Ban the wearing of face coverings inside courthouses; and
  • Prohibit federal agents from accessing or using courthouse parking lots unless they have business in the courthouse.

All but four democrat state senators signed the letter.

The four holdouts included Max Flexer, Jon Fonfara, Joan Hartley and Paul Honig.

If only Connecticut cooperated with federal immigration officials instead of shielding law enforcement behind the TRUST Act, then perhaps this wouldn't be a problem?

Here is the letter sent to Chief Justice Mullins.

The CT court MUST secure local lawyers access to federally compensated legal actions for the benefit of illegals.
Citizens and legal guests of CT need not apply, and will be expected to pay extra!!

Too bad but they don't have the power to do that especially in Federal courts

Democrats want to protect illegal aliens...Republicans want to protect American citizens...
