Pomfret’s Republican Town Committee’ campaign called the Peoples Pomfret had an exciting election night for the Town’s municipal offices, boards and commissions. With Martha Emillio’s election to the Board of Selectman and Kathleen Spasato’s election to the Board of Education, these Republicans bring a new style of leadership based on serving all Pomfret residents with engagement and transparency. Other races were closer than ever before with several first-time candidates.
Why it Matters: The People’s Pomfret candidates were committed to speaking up and tackling the tough issues with facts, sincerity and perseverance. Listening to all voters, many who crossed political affiliation to support our candidates, we heard similar stories about how they want our Town government to listen to them and show respect. With the election of Martha and Kathleen, that is what all residents can count on being a priority.
“From my view, this election was not about politics, it was about leaders who are ready to work for all residents, and I am, said Martha. I will work hard to ensure our Board of Selectmen operates in a business-like and transparent way and I want all voters to know that they can contact me to discuss whatever is on their minds. I will listen and I will respond.”
Martha’s business background in construction and her service to the Town for decades as a Registrar of Voters brings needed experience to the Board of Selectmen.
Kathleen brings the Board of Education a fresh perspective as both an active parent of two PCS students and previous experience on Town boards in Massachusetts.
“My focus has always been, and will always be on the children, parents and taxpayers who the Board of Education and the PCS Administration are there to serve, said Kathleen. As the largest single budget in Town, I am committed to do my part as a board member to ensure everyone understands where the money is going, what it is being used for and why it makes sense. I also look forward to bringing enrichment ideas as well.”
“With Republican turn out increasing approximately 8% over the last municipal election, with an overall turnout of 45.05%, the PRTC views the future with optimism, said Chris Coyle, Chairman. More Pomfret residents are seeing the positive value of increasing our Town’s checks and balances and electing candidates whose focus is serving the people.”
