Today, the US House of Representatives voted on a resolution (H. Con. Res. 58) to condemn socialism in all forms and oppose its implementation in the United States, citing historical atrocities in regimes like the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, and Cambodia, including over 100 million deaths.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 21, 2025, with unanimous Republican support. The roll call vote was: 285 Yeas, 98 Nays, and 2 Present votes; 47 representatives chose not to vote.

The "Nays" came exclusively from Democrats, primarily progressives and members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, who argued the measure was a "partisan distraction" lacking a clear definition of "socialism."

Critics of the resolution, including CPC Chair and "squad member" Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), argued it falsely conflated authoritarian dictatorships with "democratic socialism" and U.S. programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and public education — policies the progressives view as "essential safety nets," not "socialism."

Republicans framed the resolution as a defense of "capitalism, free markets, and liberty," while Democrats called it "political demagoguery" and a waste of time when priorities like funding government operations loomed.

Congressman Jim Himes was the only member of the Connecticut House delegation to vote in favor of the resolution... which means Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jahana Hayes and John Larson were opposed to condemning the atrocities that have been committed under socialism.

Very interesting. Himes should be wary of a primary from the Left, but he's made a move away from them. In March of 2023 the House teed up the same Resolution condemning Socialism - and Himes voted AGAINST it at that time. It just shows he's totally un-trustable. For his true embrace of Socialism, he documents it here: http://www.realhimes.com
