    The Mayor of Wallingford, Vincent Cervoni, issued a statement today regarding the presence of ICE agents in town on January 24th, 2026.

    He indicated that Police Chief Ventura was informed this "was a criminal matter, the apprehension of an international fugitive" and it was noted that the apprehension occurred without incident.

    Cervoni added that local municipal government does not have jurisdiction to regulate or limit federal law enforcement activities, and that Wallingford police "have not been participants in any ICE activity in Wallingford."

    He also encouraged residents not to interfere with law enforcement for their own safety.

    Chief Ventura previously assured Wallingford Town Council member Jesse Reynolds that this was Connecticut, and all members of police department had been trained on the Trust Act and were expected to abide by it.

    Two days prior, on January 26, the Wallingford Democrat Town Committee had urged followers on Facebook to contact the Mayor about the presence of ICE, sharing a letter from Tyanna Housley with concerns about town policy as it relates to ICE.

    The letter called on the mayor to:

    • Detail the policies, ordinances, and/or practices that are in effect "to limit or regulate ICE operations within Wallingford";
    • Clarify how that information is communicated "particularly to vulnerable populations" presumably meaning illegals; and
    • Identify additional "planned actions or initiatives to further safeguard the rights and safety of all community members in the context of federal immigration enforcement."

    "Our residents deserve a community where everyone can live without fear of undue federal intrusion," the letter said.

    But living in fear that criminal illegals are being protected under Connecticut's Trust Act apparently isn't of concern.
