Attorney General William Tong today joined a coalition of 13 attorneys general suing the Trump Administration to block its decision to terminate energy and infrastructure programs created by Congress in laws such as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
The lawsuit, filed in the democrat-friendly U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, challenges the decisions by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), DOE Secretary Chris Wright, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and OMB Director Russell Vought, to terminate billions of dollars in energy and infrastructure awards nationwide.
“This is yet another erratic and illegal move by Trump to ensure Big Oil keeps raking in top profits while the rest of us suffer. Congress voted to fund these programs to create jobs, save us money on our utility bills, and end our reliance on dirty fossil fuels. We’re suing to force Trump to understand laws and Congress are not optional,” said Attorney General Tong.
On January 20th, 2025, his first day in office, President Trump issued executive orders, declaring a “national energy emergency” and “Terminating the Green New Deal.”
Pursuant to this directive, the DOE compiled a list of energy and infrastructure awards worth billions of dollars. The list was intended to further the administration’s intention of eliminating Biden-era energy and infrastructure programs, including the 2021 IIJA and the 2022 IRA.
In May, DOE issued a policy memorandum asserting that it would subject projects to which it had previously awarded funding to a review process in order to "identify waste of taxpayer dollars, protect America’s national security and advance President Trump’s commitment to unleash affordable, reliable and secure energy for the American people" after billions of dollars "were rushed out the door" in the remaining days of the Biden Administration.
As a government shutdown loomed in late September of 2025, Russell Vought, the Director of OMB, posted on X that DOE would be terminating nearly $8 billion in “Green New Scam funding to fuel ‘the Left’s climate agenda," specifically citing Connecticut.
The complaint filed today alleges that "the Trump Administration’s decision to eliminate energy programs created by Congress is unlawful because it violates the separation of powers and the Administrative Procedure Act. The programs were created by statute, and federal agencies have a duty to faithfully execute those statutes."
California and the coalition are asking the court to declare that the Trump Administration’s actions are unlawful and to permanently stop the Administration from interfering with these programs.

I have commented countless times on these pages to countless articles that, while technically appropriate and supportive of the American essence, amount to little but clamor. All are informative, well documented, and politically sound.
Yet, and this is a big yet, they leave me wanting for remedy.
Nearly all of Connecticut has accepted the various premises laid down by the left over decades - to the point of compromise against principle that is so thorough, the field itself is no longer…
… a venue of contest.
We peck away at minor details and concede the argument.
I am not complaining against the authors here nor against the “men in the arena”.
The Leftist perspective has overrun the State (and the nation).
It has saturated the land, and IS the culture.
It is reflected IN our governments, not a reflection OF our governments.

How does a culture evolve? Or devolve?
Well, that is both a complex and ambiguous question.
And in 2026, we have to contend with a litany of factors, say...
All of history's preceding events as context;
Technology - not necessarily a virtue;
Any single individual's character, limitations, biases, fears, comfort levels, etc.;
Expedience - toward the welfare of a man, a group or an initiative;
External power, control, and connivance - political, economic, informational, etc.;
These ideas alone represent a mountain of influence.
And while a culture may be moved, directed by a determined few, using economic and political power in the name of expedience, it is typically done for suspect political gain by preying on the lesser human nature of the willing masses, rather than for the element of true virtue - even as the ambitious high priest and the masses convince themselves that they are indeed behaving virtuously. History bears abundant witness.
