This morning, emails circulated by Bill Evans on X indicated that Erin Stewart's campaign tried unsuccessfully to remove delegates for the upcoming CT GOP convention from May 15-16 at Mohegan Sun.
Emails show the Stewart team challenged the selection of seven delegates from Brookfield, including Robert Guarino, Rose DeMarco, Elliot C. Morales, Stephen Harding Sr., Karl Hinger, Liam Enea and Victoria Guarino, arguing the RTC did not properly notice or hold a "duly warned meeting" as required by the RTC bylaws, and that "delegates were selected by an email vote" instead.
Similarly, the Stewart campaign challenged five delegates from Canton, including Abrey Blatchley, Tom Blatchley, Steve Sedor, Andrew Lavery and Jenn Diederich, on the basis that no such "caucus of the enrolled Republicans of the Town" was noticed or occurred, and that "delegates were selected outside of the Canton RTC's bylaws.
John Healy, Senior Advisor for Erin for CT, confirmed the challenges were real, and told the Centinal, “It is literally the job of the campaigns to police the delegate selection process."
He indicated that any questions about delegate selection had to be raised in the form of a challenge by May 1st.
"In these two cases we had first-party witnesses who came to us with potentially meritorious claims," Healey told the Centinal. "We were able to have productive conversations with the local parties and ultimately decided to withdraw the challenges for the sake of party unity.”
