While Governor Ned Lamont was busy yesterday holding a press conference patting Connecticut on the back for its “world-class” election security — which doesn't even require voters to show actual photo identification — the West Hartford Republican Town Committee was, as they say, "doing the work."
On July 16, the RTC filed a FOIA request. The response they received is a gut punch to the whole “our elections are safe and secure" narrative that Democrats keep repeating.
Sead (Seyo) Cecunjanin — the same West Hartford restaurant owner Democrats rushed to defend as a “pillar of the community” after ICE picked him up in a Dunkin’ parking lot — was an active registered voter in West Hartford from 2018 to 2023.
The voter registration card obtained by the West Hartford RTC shows Cecunjanin misrepresented as a U.S. citizen. Even more damning: the registration didn’t happen because he walked into the registrar’s office. It came through the Connecticut DMV.
"Democrats claim this is impossible and doesn't happen, and is a "right wing conspiracy". Unfortunately they are only obfuscating the truth and deceiving the public, and now the West Hartford RTC has the receipts to prove it," wrote the West Hartford RTC on X. "This voter registration card reveals that Sead Cecunjanin misrepresented that he was a citizen of the United States in order to obtain a driver's license."
"The Registrar's office was unable to respond to the portion of our request relating to the mechanism by which an illegal alien was registered to vote in our town," continued West Hartford RTC. "However, careful examination of the Connecticut Voter Registration System card shows that on 9/28/18, a user named "ROUSSEAU" entered the following under a memo description line: "NEW/DMV Request received on 09/27/2018."
So one day after a DMV request, an illegal alien with a final order of removal since 1997 became an active, unaffiliated voter who could have strolled into King Philip School and cast a ballot in any West Hartford election.
Democrats have been droning on for years, claiming this kind of thing is “impossible” and “right-wing conspiracy.” But the West Hartford RTC just dropped receipts that say otherwise.
Lamont’s team spent yesterday bragging about “protecting elections and strengthening voter confidence.” They highlighted new tabulators, post-election audits, and legal victories blocking federal attempts at requiring proof of citizenship to vote. Meanwhile, right here in their own backyard, an illegal with a decades-old deportation order got registered to vote through the motor-voter system.
This isn’t just a paperwork error. This is the exact system Democrats have spent years expanding and defending — automatic voter registration, same-day registration, and DMV integration — while always insisting fraud is a just some Republican myth.
Hats off to the West Hartford RTC for doing what the mainstream Connecticut media and Democrats failed to do — they asked for the facts and got them.
"Even a Democrat can put two and two together on this one!" quipped the West Hartford RTC.
