The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Fraud Enforcement Division has announced that the expansion of its Northeast Strike Force has resulted in criminal charges against 19 individuals in Pennsylvania charged with alleged fraudulent home healthcare schemes.
Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Colin McDonald said Wednesday the home health care schemes “targeted Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program and resulted in over $4 million of fraud.”
According to McDonald, “18 of these defendants were charged in the last 12 days as part of a strategically coordinated law enforcement operation between the fraud division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.”
Appearing with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz on Newsmax’s Carl Higbie Frontline Wednesday evening, McDonald provided further details of the fraud uncovered in Pennsylvania.
“The schemes that we’ve seen involve people who are claiming to give health care to their elderly family members and others in their homes, but in many cases they’re not where they say they are, and they’re certainly not giving the care that they say that they’re giving and that they’re billing the American taxpayer,” McDonald described, adding that one case involves “a conspiracy where a defendant was in prison while billing the American taxpayer.”
The Fraud Division posted social media posts that depict one “defendant’s vacation to Miami while he billed for providing home care services to a Medicaid recipient in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.”
“Home care funding exists to assist America’s elderly and most vulnerable — not to fund schemes in which aides claim be providing care while incarcerated or vacationing in Miami and Saudi Arabia,” McDonald said in a statement. “Today’s charges and the expansion of our Northeast Strike Force into the Eastern District of Pennsylvania send a clear message to fraudsters in the region: the Department of Justice will relentlessly pursue you and use all available tools to protect Medicaid and the programs everyday Americans rely on.”
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday, a Republican, emphasized that Medicaid fraud “is more than the theft of taxpayer money.”
“It often means Pennsylvanians are not getting the care they desperately need,” Sunday explained. “That’s why we will continue to prosecute those who exploit the system to the fullest.”
The uncovering of the alleged fraud comes as the Trump administration announces the launch of its new website, fraud.gov, described as “a public record of the fraud, waste, and corruption” that has been identified by the administration’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud since January 2025.
The White House said Thursday in a press release that, with the launch of fraud.gov, President Donald Trump’s and Vice President JD Vance’s “war on fraudsters and scammers” now “becomes fully transparent.”
The new “fraud ledger” says it allows Americans to “track every action, every takedown, and every dollar recovered as part of the unrelenting effort” to identify fraud, cut off funds to those who abuse American taxpayers and those truly in need of government assistance, and bring the fraudsters to justice.
“Since the Task Force began its work, it has uncovered nearly $230 billion in fraud, stopped $56 billion in fraudulent payments that would have gone into the pockets of criminals, enforced more than $55 billion through indictments, settlements, and civil penalties, and secured hundreds of indictments and convictions,” the White House observes.
