Campaign Secures Required Qualifying Signatures—and a Strong Buffer—Within Five Days

In an extraordinary demonstration of grassroots enthusiasm, Lee Elci’s campaign for Connecticut’s 20th State Senate District raised the entire amount required to qualify for state campaign funding within just 36 hours of officially filing his candidacy.

Within only five days of filing, the campaign also collected enough qualifying contributions and accompanying signatures to meet the state’s requirements—with a strong buffer.  

Lee is proud to report that yesterday, Wednesday, August 19th, the campaign submitted its application for grant funding through Connecticut’s Citizens’ Election Program.

The remarkable speed with which the campaign achieved both milestones demonstrates the broad appeal of Elci’s candidacy, the strength of his grassroots organization and the enthusiasm building throughout the district.

“This incredible achievement belongs to every person who stepped forward and invested in our campaign,” Elci said. “Whether someone contributed $5 or the maximum allowable amount, each donation and signature sent the same powerful message: people are ready for a strong, independent voice that will listen to them and fight for their communities.”

Connecticut’s Citizens’ Election Program requires participating candidates to raise a specified amount and demonstrate meaningful grassroots support before becoming eligible for public campaign financing. The Elci campaign not only met those requirements—it surpassed them in 5 days.

“Our supporters didn’t simply help us meet a fundraising goal,” Elci continued. “They launched a people-powered campaign focused on public safety, affordability, government accountability and restoring common sense in Hartford. I am humbled by their confidence and ready to work every day to earn the trust of voters across the 20th District.”

With its grant application being submitted yesterday, the campaign will now accelerate its voter-contact program, community outreach and grassroots organizing across Bozrah, East Lyme, New London, Old Lyme, Salem and Waterford, as well as the portions of Montville and Old Saybrook that comprise the 20th State Senate District.
