Connecticut’s ranking Intelligence Committee Democrat just spent a closed-door call with more than 160 Indivisible Greenwich activists treating the midterms like an imminent insurrection while insisting the only real threat is Donald Trump.

Himes opened by declaring, as fact, that Trump “doesn’t accept the results of elections” and therefore “there’s no way that Donald Trump is going to accept” Democrat gains in the House or Senate. He insisted Trump was going to get “shellacked” and that Republicans have “basically given up on the House of Representatives.”

He referenced January 6 as the day Trump “sent a mob to stop the peaceful transfer of power,” then claimed Trump has “already begun to set the foundation” for a repeat. Himes hopes that Trump executes whatever plan he has “as incompetently as he usually does things… without sophistication, without coordination, without a lot of forethought.”

Himes insisted that Trump’s July speech on the potential of foreign meddling in elections “really didn’t land with anybody because it was so nonsensical and disorganized,” though he admitted that MAGA “believed what he said.”

On non-citizen voting, Himes was rather blunt. He called the SAVE Act “a catastrophic idea in search of a problem” pushed because Trump continues to “promote the LIE that our elections are corruptly influenced by, as he puts it, illegal aliens.”

Himes promised Democrats would “make it harder” for Trump to “claim the election was stolen,” stating in his best political projection: “we are going to make these wins too big to rig.” A two-seat House margin is dangerous, but a 15-seat margin—which Himes thinks is possible for Democrats—makes claims of corruption harder to sell. He told the room to “keep the pedal to the metal” and even cross into New York to help Democrat candidate Cait Conley, because the best defense is a margin large enough that accusations look ridiculous.

Himes said Democrats would be “terrified” and “exceedingly nervous” right now if Trump had a 50% approval rating, but he quickly brushed off that concern, saying Trump’s polling numbers were “catastrophic.”

Himes promised he was “working really hard” with the director of the CIA and the director of National Intelligence. He wants to know what happens if Trump “goes on national TV on Election Day… and says I’ve just received word from the director of the CIA that the Iranians have compromised the election in Michigan.” He said, “I’ve got their cell phones and on Election Day I will be in close contact.”

Then he got to the FBI.

“Jamie Raskin… has jurisdiction over the Department of Justice and the FBI. FBI run by Kash Patel is a much more dangerous entity, quite frankly, than the CIA or the DNI. The FBI has guys with guns… Kash Patel is a uniquely evil SOB.” Himes said Raskin has lawyers “teeing up” temporary restraining orders so that the moment an FBI agent appears at a polling place, someone is in federal court blocking them from entering or taking machines. He called machine seizures “our probably biggest worry on Election Day.”

The scenarios escalated quickly from there. Trump could send “a bunch of guys with AR-15s to a polling place,” creating a scuffle that overwhelms local police and ends with “voting machines in the back of a DHS truck.” That would be “completely illegal,” Himes noted, unless a judge issues a Fourth Amendment warrant—or, “and this gets us into the crazy world,” someone invokes “the Insurrection Act or something. Now, all of a sudden, there’s some version of martial law and the traditional laws are, in some way that we’ve never seen, suspended.”

Activists were instructed to stay “Gandhi-like.” “It is essential—a thousand percent essential—that anybody around a polling place is absolutely punctilious in observing the law… under no circumstances does anybody get in the face of law enforcement. This is what Donald Trump wants. He wants a Democratic activist to threaten… a federal officer who has no business being there, so the federal officer wrestles the activist to the ground. Now, all of a sudden, we’ve got a melee. This is exactly what Trump wants.”

If the situation really deteriorates, Himes said, Marc Elias and a long list of organizations will be on hand and ready to get involved at the drop of a hat. He also indicated that Congress is sending staff to sensitive locations to “bear witness,” too.

On Proud Boys-style intimidation, Himes said it was “absolutely one of the scenarios” and a real possibility that Trump’s supporters would “intimidate or harass voters, especially voters of color.” If Trump is “smart” (Himes immediately added that he is not), he would target “locations where you have high Latino turnout… the Southern Tier in Texas,” then claim “these are illegal aliens... as he puts it.” Lawyers would be ready with restraining orders. Connecticut itself is a low priority because Governor Lamont is already “20 points ahead,” and Trump “is not a smart man,” so spending resources here would be “pretty crazy.” Still, “you can never rule out” MAGA incidents.

Between Election Day and January 3, Himes expects the full 2020 rerun: Giuliani “wheeled out from whatever cave he’s living in,” frivolous suits, and courts dismissing them. The real vulnerability, in his telling, is January 3, when the House is not a continuing body. The clerk (Kevin McCumber) has a ministerial role accepting certificates. Himes floated the possibility that Mike Johnson fires him and installs “Rudy Giuliani in his place.” “Boy, would it be advertising the obvious attempt to undertake a coup.”

Secretaries of state were described as pure “scorekeepers in an old-style baseball game” whose job is only to record results, not decide them. Any attempt to “screw up election certificates” is a federal and state felony, he said; the president cannot pardon the latter. Himes stressed that disputes belong in court, not with election officials.

In the Q&A, he addressed a claim that Kash Patel was in Moscow “consulting with the Russian FSB,” saying he was not “100 sure” but that Patel would have to answer to Raskin and Himes upon his return. He distinguished influence operations (expected from Russia) from actual interference in voting systems, which he claimed “we have never seen” and which intelligence has not detected. He also insisted that career officials at the CIA, FBI, and elsewhere will form “a long line of resignations by people who say, sorry, I’m not participating in a coup in my own country.” But he has “a lot less trust in DHS because their leadership is so corrupt.” Jay Clayton and John Ratcliffe, he said, are “very different people than Kash Patel,” though “they prostitute[d] themselves in their confirmation hearing.”

On the Insurrection Act, Himes argued that courts would reverse specious declarations quickly. “One person dying in Siberia does not a National Emergency make.” Overall confidence that the system holds, he said, is about 80 percent. But “if a machine winds up in the back of a van, that is not necessarily a curable event.”

He closed with lifestyle advice (“read books, hang out with your family, get some exercise, eat good food, take up beekeeping”) and a note that while “this sucks, this really sucks,” he feels “really blessed to be in a position to try to… buttress our democracy when Donald Trump has put it at such risk.”

The call is consistent with Himes’ recent comments to local reporters about violence and disruption being bigger risks than foreign hacking. For Indivisible, the call functioned as both a pep talk and an operational briefing: lawyers, observers, and carefully non-confrontational witnesses should be in place so that any federal presence at the polls can be litigated in real time, while margins are driven high enough that losses can be framed as the product of election interference rather than voter choice.

The circularity is hard to miss—elections are secure and paper-backed, intelligence shows no foreign interference, yet the ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee is mobilizing against a predicted coup by the president and his “uniquely evil” FBI director. Buckle up, friends.

Jim, put the bong down. You don't sound rational at all. Open the windows and take several deep breaths. Is the CIA in the room with you now? Do you hear their voices? What are they saying to you? Please share with us.

Sandinista Jim is ever the Gaslighter. He's incessantly repeating there's no ballot tampering - just because Hearst Media and its captive publications won't report it. In county after county across the fruited plain, Democrat election officials, county executives and governors steadfastly REFUSE to clean and update voter rolls to align with current eligible voter lists. They refuse to purge those who moved or have died from the lists. Local and Independent media cover it all.
