To steal a phrase from The Donald — “It was a perfect phone call.”

We’re not talking about the call that was leaked prior to Trump’s impeachment trial with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnkiy, but the call Trump had a few days ago with the Ukrainian leader.

Obviously, it was a perfect call as well — peace is breaking out in Ukraine.

Shortly after the call, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister told Chinese representatives in Beijing that Zelenskiy was ready to talk peace. We reported on that development yesterday.

Kyiv personalities connected to those pulling the strings in the Ukraine War are going public with a possible peace as well, offering an offramp for Zelenskiy.

This is likely coordinated behind the scenes in Brussels and Washington, otherwise, it would not be happening.

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko…speculated in an interview with Italy’s Corriere Della Serra over the weekend that the Ukrainian leader might agree to territorial compromises with Russia. In his words, “Will he…consider a territorial compromise with Putin?…Zelensky will probably have to resort to a referendum. I don’t think he can reach such painful and important agreements on his own without popular legitimacy,” reported Zero Hedge.

Klitschko also echoed Atlantic Council senior fellow Adrian Karatnycky’s demand from mid-December for Zelensky to create a “government of national unity” by suggesting that this could help disperse responsibility for unpopular decisions like mobilization and thus ease their implementation. His interview couldn’t have been more perfectly timed since it coincided with the signals that Ukraine sent over the past week about its newfound semi-seriousness in reviving peace talks with Russia as explained here.

For its part, the Kremlin is showing a willingness to negotiate, and has for some time, on its own terms.

“Basically, Russia is open for a negotiation process but first, we need to understand how prepared Ukraine is and whether it has permission for that from its handlers. At this point, you can see that contradictory statements are being made and things are not quite clear,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov after Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba met with Chinese officials and declared Ukraine is ready to make peace.

Hungarian President Viktor Orban traveled to Moscow to break the ice on possible peace talks.

It seems to us President Trump, as promised, will quickly bring an end to the Ukraine conflict.
