Senior Deputy Republican Leader Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott) today responded to a stunning Quinnipiac University poll showing Republicans as more favorable than Democrats for the first time ever—a clear rejection of the Democratic Party’s failed policies.

According to the January 29 poll, 43 percent of voters now view Republicans favorably—the highest on record—while Democrats have plummeted to an all-time low of just 31 percent favorability. A staggering 57 percent now hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party.

“As Policy and Screening Chairman for the Senate Republicans, I’ve seen this coming,” Senator Sampson said. “People are sick of sky-high electric bills, rising crime, and reckless spending on illegal immigrants while working families struggle. Democrats are ignoring reality, and it’s catching up to them.”

Southington Democrats Refuse to Support Electric Bill Relief Efforts

“Nowhere is this disconnect clearer than in Southington, where Democrat Town Council members refused to support a resolution calling for electric bill relief and endorsing my Senate Bill 598, which would eliminate the public benefits charge from electric bills. While the Republican-led majority backed the measure, local Democrats chose to vote ‘no’ instead of standing with the people.

“This is why voters are turning on Democrats,” Senator Sampson said. “Instead of supporting real solutions to lower electric bills, they chose politics over people—and the people are noticing.”

From Connecticut to California, Democrat Policies Are Failing

“Whether it’s illegal immigration chaos or runaway costs, voters see the failure of Democratic leadership nationwide,” Senator Sampson continued.

“Just look at Los Angeles, where radical protesters illegally blocked the 101 Freeway for hours—and instead of enforcing the law, the Democrat mayor ordered police to ‘stand down.’

“What happens when this comes to I-95, I-84, or I-91?” he asked. “Will Governor Lamont allow lawlessness here, too? He’s already doubled down on ‘Sanctuary State’ policies that shield criminal illegal immigrants. Will he let them block highways like in California?”

Voters Are Choosing Republicans and Real Solutions

“This poll confirms what we already knew—people are done with the Democrat playbook of high costs, rising crime, and no accountability. Republicans are fighting for hardworking families, lower electric bills, and safer communities. The numbers don’t lie—the people are with us,” Senator Sampson said.
