We have an emerging national awakening that we can build on. This awakening is the shift away from media-hyped “Personality Politics” and toward the recovery and reaffirmation of our founding values and constitutional principles. Greatness as a nation is not a destination. It is a journey, and we are embarking on the next phase.
Here are several thoughts as to what the election was really about and how we can hone our message to inspire our families, friends, neighbors and many others to stand up for liberty.
Authenticity: Be proud to be a Republican. The election of Donald Trump sent a message that regardless of personality, voters want authentic leaders who place our nation’s interests first. Republicans can be authentic and enthusiastic about our proud Republican legacy bravely established by Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. When we celebrate, it is the recognition of the power and potential of individual freedom. While we can take pride in our leader’s strength and perseverance, we must make sure we communicate that our focus is not on idolatry, but rather on the rights and values Republicans are standing up for. Mine, yours, everyone’s.
Trust: Appeal to the shared values of all citizens who, like us, require trust and transparency from their government. We understand that where one right ends, another begins and there is no reason we can’t have a civil discussion about reasonable policy differences. Trust is the bedrock foundation of our society, our laws, and commerce. This year let’s educate and attract new advocates for transparency by settling for nothing less than the complete and unfiltered truth from our elected officials in Hartford and Washington. This is the time to stand up to being shouted down, divided and diminished by the elite and empower others to join us in a new era of truth.
Values Unite: We all share our nation’s founding values and constitutional principles. What unites us all is our consent to be governed. Lel’s rediscover Connecticut’s leadership in being the first colony in the nation to assert this right in 1638. We can translate political issues that are being used to divide and polarize us into the real-life impacts and implications these issues represent for individuals and families. For example, continually higher spending (including disguised taxes in our electric bills) means less money for your family’s needs. Politically driven agendas imposed on our schools results in declining educational outcomes and the invasion of our daughters’rights to privacy and pursuit of happiness (let alone safety!), We can gain more by finding common ground and discussing common issues and challenges rather than fueling division.
In 2025, let’s build on the momentum of the 2024 Federal election and draw more voters to our liberty-based message. Our seasonal election campaigns must now evolve into ongoing engagement. We have the high ground and the right message. The facts are on our side. Now it is up to all of us. Are you in?
