First he was picked up for an alleged theft at Target on June 24th, which he blamed at least partially on the fact that store did not have bags.

“During a recent visit to the Bethel Target, two items in my armload of others were not scanned. I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags, and I was juggling multiple purchases,” State Rep Raghib Allie-Brennan said in a statement to the press.

He failed to mention that he voted to ban single-use plastic bags.

Then came a new arrest warrant for larceny in the 6th degree, prompting Allie-Brennan to turn himself into police on July 28th.

Now it appears that on that exact same day, July 28th, Allie-Brennan was also charged with "driving while distracted due to alleged use of a cell phone while driving."

And once again, Allie-Brennan voted in favor of the very law that he allegedly violated.

Public Act No. 24-20 / Substitute Senate Bill No. 183 updated the statute that banned cell phone use while driving, making it a "serious traffic violation" with a first time penalty of $200 and likely to trigger an increase in insurance.

Allie-Brennan's attorney previously said her client had submitted an accelerated rehabilitation application after his first arrest, and another one after the second arrest, hoping the second application would be considered in tandem with the first one.

After the second charges came to light, Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D) privately expressed his concerns with Allie-Brennan.

"Raghib will take some personal time away from the legislature over the next month to deal with the legal, political and personal ramifications — we are not in session and committees are not meeting," said Ritter. "I will reconnect with him after Labor Day to talk further.”

Presumably now they will have a bit more to talk about.

Is this guy EVER going to resign???? He is a complete embarrassment to the district he represents.

This is the type of "representation" that Connecticut residents get when you have a "two-tiered justice" system. Disgraceful - CTCentinal recently printed a list of all the CT legislators with DUI arrests.
