State Senate Candidate Jason Guidone is running for office in Connecticut's 19th district.
He tells Connecticut Centinal / CDM founder L. Todd Wood about his insights from door-knocking during this election.
"I've hit thousands of doors, spoken with I would say hundreds of people," says Guidone. "There's a whole bunch of walk-away, we call it walk-away democrats... that are just fed up with what's going on in the state as far as policy impact goes. People just don't like the trajectory of our state and the pressure that's coming on the people, the towns in a variety of ways. Financially, of course."
"Affordability is a big conversation," says Guidone. Unfunded mandates. The public benefits charges on electric bills. People are feeling the pain.
Public safety and Connecticut's status as a sanctuary state are also top of mind. Especially since police are "hamstrung by having qualified immunity being stripped away in 2020... veteran police officers are retiring earlier than normal, recruitment is lower..." says Guidone.
He would work to end Connecticut's "sanctuary state" status -- at least temporarily until the state gets turned around and is economically healthy again.
He talked about how the middle class, conservatives and the "producers of Connecticut" are leaving the state.
"Why would you stay here if you could produce a similar product or dollar amount in your life in another place and actually capture 30% more," posits Guidone.
He offered ideas for how to revitalize small businesses and the economy in general.
Guidone talked about rising crime and human trafficking.
He promised to protect medical freedom, especially after Connecticut lost the religious exemption to vaccination in 2020; in fact, he says, "2020 is what got me into this whole mix." Guidone believes people should have the right to say "no" to medical interventions.
He would do away with critical race theory as a teaching tool.
He wants to help make school lunches healthy again by tapping into local community food shops that are healthier than the current, highly processed school lunches... which would also help boost small businesses and the economy.
