You'd think they would be tired of this already, but here they go again!
This weekend's protest flies under the banner "fifty fifty one" -- not to be confused with "fifty one fifty", the California Welfare & Institutions Code that allows for an involuntary psych hold on a person deemed to be a danger to himself or others.
The "50501" movement, which is composed of four progressive PACs (The Political Revolution PAC, No Voice Unheard, Voices of Florida, and Build the Resistance), has previously sponsored the "No Kings Day" and "Hands Off" protests.
The April 19th nationwide day of action, which is also being backed by Indivisible, includes protests in 15 Connecticut towns: Brookfield, Durham, Enfield, Hartford (two different sponsors), Killingly, New Haven, New London, New Milford, Newtown, Norwalk, Norwich, Torrington, West Hartford, Westport, and Willimantic.
The theme for the April 19th protests seems to be a hodgepodge of the messages from the previous protests, sprinkled with some love for Kilmar Abrego Garcia whom they want to bring "home" -- even though Kilmar is currently in his home country of El Salvador.
It’s time to stand up for veterans, healthcare, education, citizenship rights, education, science, the LGBTQ+ community, climate, SS, the CDC, USAID and so much more!
Democracy belongs to all of us—not to dictators, kings, dynasties, billionaires or those who seek to hoard power and accumulate wealth for the 1%.
Protest the outrageous imprisonment and disappearance of at least two innocent men into El Salvador's notorious CECOT prison by the tRump administration.
More broadly, the "50501" movement intends to "unite the American people" against the Trump Administration, aka "the enemy". The movement has identified six "requests":
Hunter Dunn, national press coordinator for the 50501 movement, told Newsweek that April 19th is not meant to be a day of protest, but rather a "day of action".
"The 50501 movement has called for a National Day of Action, also known as a National Day of Community Action, not a National Day of Protest," Dunn said. "There are plenty of demonstrations happening around the country as part of the day of action, but the primary focus of the day of action is speaking to the needs of your community."
Most of the "actions" we saw listed for Connecticut, though, specifically mention "protest"...
Ignore them- they want any attention- just like a toddler in full tantrum!
