Here are a few thoughts on what may be one of the most historical gravitational shifts in our country’s history; a shift based on our shared values.

While the pundits, pols and pollsters continue to slice and dice the voting data of November 5th, in their fervor to glean meaning from “What” happened, are they missing the “Why” it happened?

Meaning is not found in segmentation by race, gender, age, neighborhoods, or any other attempt to group people into categories. Truth is not to be found in analyzing personalities, campaign themes or what new communication vehicles they used. I believe deeper thought about why the historic groundswell for Trump happened may be due to three key factors:

    • Authenticity: While the wacky and weird world of personality politics wound its course over the summer into the fall, people had no choice but to be confronted with more and more non-stop news about Trump. But, perhaps like a fever burning itself out, a strange phenomenon occurred as we watched a man continually attacked, including in courts and physically. What we saw was a real human being against what increasingly looked like never-ending, unfair, and heavy handed, even desperate tactics. We saw a person get stronger. And in that strength, we saw authenticity. Emerging from his outsized personality, we witnessed a passion for our country and a personal commitment to never give up on his mission to MAGA. From pumping his fist in the air and shouting “Fight, fight, fight” to standing behind the counter at a McDonald’s and wearing a sanitation worker’s vest (ok, Garbage Man), his actions signaled that he would stand up for everyone. Like or dislike him personally, people across all walks of life and demographics saw the same thing. The real thing.
    • Truth: In the background of events and circumstances leading up to this election cycle, many may have underestimated the importance of context. That context was the advent of repetitive lies behind the smokescreen of labels like “Misinformation”. Telling the truth was on the ballot. Some may retort that “Trump tells lies and exaggerates, etc.” and that may have some validity. But the enterprise-scale and institutionalized-scope of the non-stop lies was being exposed. Trump’s opponents had been feeding the country major lies for years and it finally caught up to them. One might consider the purchase of Twitter by Musk and the release of the “Twitter Files” as the tipping point. From an increasingly distrusted media that aided and abetted the false narratives with increasing virulence and anger, to the increasing obviousness of their fabrications and demands that we “not trust our lying eyes”, people saw the pattern. Perhaps the final straw was the grand fabrication orchestration of the “Joe’s sharp as a tack!” narrative. People perceived Trump’s commitment to calling it bluntly, and honestly, while taking action to strengthen the protections of our constitutional rights.
    • Shared Values & Principles: Finally, the big winner on November 5th was our shared values and constitutional principles. This is the reason our United States is the #1 destination for immigrants from all countries on earth. Values and principles are about the promise of individual liberty and a culture that does not idolize leaders, but rather celebrates the freedom of a government by the people and for the people. This is a human condition that has been written about for centuries and studied by our Founding Fathers, with the core value of “unalienable rights”. Trump’s MAGA is reclaiming what being great is really about; fully realizing the vision and potential of a nation and the liberty of every person. Liberty possessed by all and with this election protected by the majority. A majority that was hiding in plain sight and who share the same values. Values unite.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving and see our family, in-laws, and friends, some of whom may still be suffering from the election dysphoria, let’s embrace all with a toast to “E pluribus unum” ("Out of many, one").

What happened on November 5th, was not just the election of a new President, it was also another installment payment toward what George Washington described as the “experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.”

People rose to the challenge, to protect what makes our nation special and that was the glorious victory of November 5th!
