Attorney General William Tong released the following statement regarding news that President Donald Trump is withholding federal Title X funding for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England.
“There is no role for partisan pandering and interference when it comes to our healthcare. Abortion and contraception are safe, legal and accessible in Connecticut, and we’re not about to let Donald Trump change that. This cruel act seeks to abruptly deny healthcare to tens of thousands of women and patients across our state, and we stand with Planned Parenthood to fight back,” said Attorney General Tong.
The AG's statement said that "tens of thousands of Connecticut patients receive both reproductive healthcare and primary care at clinics operated by PPSNE, including abortion care, contraception, STI testing, cancer screenings and other primary care. Many of those patients are able to access family planning services because of Title X funds."
Tong lamented that Trump was trying to "defund women’s healthcare under the “gag rule” prohibiting any clinic receiving Title X federal funds from providing or even referring patients for abortion care, even though Planned Parenthood had never used Title X funds to provide abortion care to patients."
Of course Tong sued to block Trump in 2019, and the rule was later overturned under the Biden Administration.
Tong then claimed that during the first Trump Administration, the “gag rule” resulted in "a substantial decrease in healthcare services provided, most notably for low-income patients, minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals living with disabilities, minors, and those living in rural areas."
Republican attorneys general sued to block this healthcare funding during the Biden administration, and Tong joined states defending the restoration of funding.
But Tong might not have to worry that much about the cuts in Connecticut.
That's because Governor Lamont already said he would use emergency powers to plug funding gaps potentially "created" by the Trump Administration.
“Following last year’s election, we anticipated the new administration would make cuts to federal funding, something our state – like many – relies on for the healthcare of our most vulnerable, for infrastructure improvements, for public safety, and for our children’s education. What no one could anticipate was how severe these cuts would be and how quickly they would occur to vital programs, sometimes without warning," said Lamont's statement, which was made in conjunction with Connecticut State Senate President Martin Looney and Speaker Matt Ritter.
“Drastic reductions were always going to impact our own state budget and now we’re beginning to see the unfortunate effects. Since the beginning of this new administration, we have been modeling out potential outcomes and monitoring funding for critical programs. We will review these on a case-by-case basis to understand the impact and protect our most essential programs," the statement continued.
“If this pattern of devastating cuts continues, we will be prepared to exercise emergency powers," promised the democrats.
Take the democrats at their word, considering they already had an emergency that led to giving away $800k in taxpayer money to their favorite NGO that transes kids and kills babies in the womb, Planned Parenthood.
By the way, Rebecca Hart Holder, President of Reproductive Equity Now, also issued a statement on the Planned Parenthood funding cuts.
"Let’s be clear: this is more than a budget cut. This is a death sentence for thousands of people across the country – and it’s intentional. Built on racism and classism, this freeze aims to send a message to people across the country: ‘If you can’t afford birth control, you don’t deserve it. If you can’t pay for cancer screenings, we won’t help you. If you need STI testing or treatment, tough luck — figure it out yourself'," said Hart Holder.
"By weaponizing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts, the Trump administration is punishing providers for prioritizing equity in health care and explicitly targeting the very communities Title X was created to serve: Black and brown patients, LGBTQ+ people, and low-income families," she continued calling the cut a "dreadful and dangerous decision."
“The cruel act...“
and
“This is a death sentence for thousands of people across the country...“
Really?
Could you nitwits be any more divorced from truth and reality?
Get behind me, Satan.
