Charter Oak News Network launches today at CharterOakNews.com. If you’ve ever hunted for a straight story in this state, this is for you.

Let me ask you something. When’s the last time you opened a Connecticut news site and felt like it was written for you?

Not for the people running the state. Not for the folks who already agree with every word. For you. The guy at the gas pump doing the math on his heating bill. The mom reading the school board agenda at 11 at night. The small business owner who just found out what the new fee costs him.

If you’re a conservative in Connecticut, you know the answer. You’ve been doing the work yourself for years. Read one paper for the headline, a second one for the part the first one left out, then go digging on your own for the rest. Look far, look wide, piece it together. That’s not a news diet. That’s a part-time job.

And here’s the thing. It isn’t just that the coverage leans one way. It’s that the debate itself stays one-sided. A tax goes up and the story is about who it helps. A program blows its budget and the story is about how much we care. The question you were going to ask, who’s paying for this and what do we get, never makes it into the story. Somebody has to ask it.

Look, I’m not saying every reporter in this state is a bad guy. A lot of them work hard. But when almost everybody in the room sees the world the same way, whole stories just don’t get told. Nobody’s lying. They just never think to ask.

So here’s what changes today. Charter Oak News Network is a Connecticut news front page built with a conservative reader in mind. It’s called CONN, and it’s simple. Connecticut headlines. National headlines. Sections for Connecticut, National, Opinion, Politics, and Business. And every single story links back to its original publisher, so you’re never taking anybody’s word for what a story said. You click, you read the source, you decide.

That part matters to me. I don’t want you to trust me. I don’t want you to trust a website. I want you to be able to check. A news site that shows its work is a news site that respects you.

And no, this isn’t a megaphone to rally the troops. We’ve got plenty of those, on every side, and they all say the same thing to the same people. What Connecticut has been missing is a place where a conservative viewpoint is treated as a normal part of the conversation. Where a hard question about a state budget is just a hard question. Where the other side’s argument gets a fair hearing, and so does yours.

I’ve spent 25 years in radio. I’ve learned one thing about this state. Connecticut folks aren’t afraid of a debate. They’re afraid of being told there isn’t one.

So go look. CharterOakNews.com. Bookmark it, send it to your neighbor, send it to the neighbor you don’t agree with. Tell me what’s missing. Tell me what you’d add.

Connecticut has a conservative voice in the newsroom now. It’s about time somebody turned the lights on.
