In the Hindu tradition, Lord Ganesha, goddess Saraswati and goddess Laxmi are the pillars of Karma. As Americans of Indian descent, if we had 100 dollars, we would spend 70 dollars on our children’s education and 30 dollars on other things. Everyone in the family chips in. That is how important high-quality education is for us. Our children know that a B+ is a hard conversation at home! Academic achievement is a top priority in our households because we care deeply about our children’s successful future in America.

Like all immigrants, we overcame struggles and hardships, and we prevailed. Better yet, we succeeded. What we instilled in our children is their Indian heritage of Karma – the principle of cause and effect, where a person’s actions have consequences. Indeed, karma, thought another away, happens to be a foundational American value -- meritocracy. Our children are Americans born with Karma to fulfill their American Dream, and we cherish their hopes and dreams.

In 2016, when Donald Trump became President, he gave the highest honor of an American President to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, by inviting him as the first international dignitary to the White House. Americans of Indian descent like me and my family took Trump’s respect to the Indian PM as a tribute and an acknowledgement of our contributions in America. We were filled with pride for this shared moment of two leaders of thriving democracies coming together.

Democrat politicians like to dismiss our unique stories of success with a collective label, calling us “model minorities.” Thereby, they diminish our real and significant achievements as a result of hard work, family values and personal responsibility. Through India’s history, we have firsthand experience that Divide and Conquer works. They continue their now obvious mission to divide us and destroy our agency to pursue the American Dream. Democrats want to destroy meritocracy and create dependence on government handouts.

Education is a treasured value for us Americans of Indian descent. Even grandparents take on the responsibility and expense for additional tutoring and extra homework to supplement where many schools fall short. When we see that advanced programs are being dropped at our schools, we see it is as if meritocracy is being dropped. We see our children being denied opportunities to reach their potential academically. To apply to top colleges, our children need to score much higher in standardized tests than all others. Is it fair that even with excellent grades, test scores and strong resumes, many of our children are still being rejected from top colleges? This is anti-Karma and anti-American. And frankly, a detriment to these once great American educational institutions.

What’s even more concerning lately for American parents of Indian descent is realizing that so much of our hard work, family values, and personal responsibility mantras of our home life is being directly undermined by administrators and teachers in schools. Parents who are involved in the schools are concerned about the dumbing down of curriculums, and the vilifying of high-achieving children who are being brought down in the name of “equity”.

My fellow Americans of Indian descent, I recognize that many of us are a peace-loving people. Even if we choose not to be vocal publicly against these attacks on our values, let us support the one individual, President Donald Trump who has shown us respect, taken a bullet for us and stood to fight for our children, while his opponent laughs and claps in the face of our children’s bleak future.

Democrat politicians believe they have our votes in the bag. So, they use our hard-earned tax dollars to hand out free housing, food, school, healthcare, cell phones, credit cards and voter registration to millions of illegal migrants. Is this fair to us who have made sacrifices, endured struggles, and followed the immigration laws to become contributing members of this great country?

Our support for President Trump can bring back academic achievement and meritocracy in schools and access to top colleges. Together, let us ensure that our children and grandchildren can achieve their dreams that are possible only in America.

Let us restore Karma in America.
