It happened again—another street takeover—this time on the Q Bridge in New Haven, CT.

So far, one 18-year-old male driver has been arrested and charged with racing/spectating, larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with police, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, failure to obey officer signal, reckless endangerment and criminal trespass, according to NBC News. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. Two passengers in the car were arrested but the charges are unclear.

Police also shut down another attempted street takeover in New Haven on the same night.

Thanks to Vinnie Penn for reporting on the latest in what has become a string of street takeovers plaguing Connecticut over the last couple of years.

Just a couple months ago, in September 2024, there was an attempted takeover in Berlin, CT, after a group started racing and allegedly gambling on the races.

In July 2024, police reported a street takeover by a group of riders on ATVs and dirt bikes in broad daylight in New Haven.

Last December, North Haven police said around 1,500 vehicles showed up at Universal Drive for a street takeover that blocked shoppers into several parking lots with no way to leave.

In September 2023, police in Danbury investigated a street takeover that involved a large number of vehicles that were driving recklessly and blocking intersections.

In July 2023 approximately 300 riders on dirt bikes, quads, motorcycles and other all-terrain vehicles participated in a moving street takeover in Milford.

Tolland saw a street takeover event in May, 2023, that led to the destruction of a woman’s car.

In another May 2023 event, approximately 20 motorcycles were reportedly blocking Interstate 91 in a street takeover event in East Windsor.

Yet another May 2023 event saw an attempted takeover of a tunnel in Hartford. Police issued a warning about a potential takeover in Bethany around the same time.

There have been so many frightening street takeovers in the state that a task force was created to help coordinate the response by different police departments.

Governor Ned Lamont signed Public Act 23-203 "An Act Concerning Firearms and Street Takeovers" on June 28, 2023, which went into effect as of October 1, 2023. It is now against the law to promote, incite or recruit for "street takeovers" on social media.

Additionally, a Statewide Tip Line and website were established last year regarding “Street Takeovers” in Connecticut. Individuals can call 1-800-CALL-FBI and select the “Connecticut Street Takeovers” option, or visit fbi.gov/cttakeovertips to provide investigators with video/photos related to these events. All information may be submitted anonymously and will remain confidential.
