Although I no longer live in Connecticut, I still feel the need to help Connecticut from my new home, the beautiful Red State of Tennessee.
People may think I left the fight when I moved.
But instead, I took the fight to higher ground, away from the oncoming fire.
In Connecticut, I was a fierce advocate for children, raising awareness of the inappropriate sexual content being shown to minor children, like the infamous "Enfield pizza topping sex lesson" (the district was forced to admit it was a 'mistake'); pushing back against unscientific covid vaccine mandates and cruel lockdowns; and standing up for our First Amendment Rights. I couldn't believe how quickly we were losing our rights for the sake of "science", and feared the lack of pushback from elected officials. How could they just blindly go through with things that made absolutely no sense, like social distancing?!
So I got into the game, recognizing how important it was for We The People to fight for the rights afforded to us under the US Constitution.
I worked on a few Republican campaigns, served as a whip at the Republican Convention, and learned a lot about my political party.
I met brave and strong Republican warriors who would become my new best friends, and watched in horror at how they were shunned by their own Republican Town Committees ("RTCs")--even though many were working actively on Republican campaigns--just because they were medical freedom or parental rights advocates.
What an eye opener that was!
It made me realize something else was going on here, something we've all heard whispered. And in that "a-ha" moment, I suddenly understood that, at least in 2022, some "republicans" had no intention of winning. Their campaigns were just an act, purely for show.
What happens to their state campaign money? How does it get spent? Who else (besides Democrats) benefits from campaigns that no one intends to win?
And I didn't even mention the fact that dozens of seats went uncontested when republicans, on purpose, didn't even put up a candidate. They say they don't want to waste resources in "unwinnable areas" but you can't win if you don't even play the game! And that happened in more than 40 state races in 2024, too -- no republican candidates!
Is this part of the "swamp" that everyone keeps talking about?
Do Connecticut Republicans really believe the party is doing a good job?
Remember, the number ONE job of the CT GOP and your local RTC is to find candidates to win elections.
Since that's not happening, here's what I think you need to do to take control of your party.
Start going to your RTC meetings. Don't just show up, but speak up. Raise your hand. Get involved. Start a dialogue with your RTC members, and hold them accountable for representing the republicans in your town. Shine a spotlight on anything nefarious in the press.
RTC members are meant to represent all of the Republicans in their district—they are elected in a caucus open to all registered Republicans.
If your RTC no longer represents you, then take over your RTC at the next caucus. Vote the old guard out, the ones who don't stand up for republican principles. And remember that there are plenty of good Republicans out there, so not everyone needs to go.
You'll need to study your RTC's by-laws, get your slate together and show up with enough like-minded republicans at the caucus to secure the win. It definitely takes a lot of work and planning to pull off a precinct strategy like this.
The good news is that once you take over your RTC, you will have the power to choose who represents your RTC at the state level, these folks are known as "State Central Representatives" or "SCRs".
It is the SCRs who vote for the CT GOP leader, the RNC Chairwoman and Chairman, and the delegates for the convention.
So if you want new CT GOP leadership, you need enough SCRs to agree and select an alternative candidate. (And you need to agree on who that alternate candidate is, too.)
It's a lot of work, but it's worth doing if you want to save your party and Make Connecticut Great Again!
