It was a curious omission. A few weeks ago Connecticut Attorney General William Tong sent out a "Year in Review" press release celebrating his activities in 2023. You can read it here.
Notice what Attorney General Tong did not say? In reviewing his accomplishments for the year, AG Tong does not mention that he demanded in a lawsuit brief that a Connecticut mom's children be socially transitioned against her will and without even her knowledge.
In a way, AG Tong's bashfulness is a good thing.
As Family Institute of Connecticut Action and our allies turn up the heat on gender transition in our public schools, some state officials seem to be slowly backing away. If they recognize that they have gone too far and want to change course, so much the better.
But the danger remains. Indeed, it may become more stealthy. For even as AG Tong quietly omits his anti-child policy from his "Year in Review," the agenda he supports is still moving forward. Just this week the Journal Inquirer reported "Manchester school board drafts policy to support transgender, gender non-conforming students."
The "support" does not include supporting parents who do not want the school system to transition their children. From the article:
"The 'intentional or persistent refusal' to use a name or pronoun not corresponding to a student's gender identity would be a violation of the policy. In instances where a parent or guardian disagrees with a student's decision to use a particular name, gender marker, or pronouns at school and in educational records, the district would — under the new policy — informally refer to the student with their stated identity while taking steps to assist the family and help resolve the issue."
According to the JI article, the school's decision to "informally" support a child's gender confusion, even when parents disagree, is based on a Connecticut state law. In fact, no such law exists. School districts throughout Connecticut are simply pretending that it does.
The only way to stop this, to protect our children, is to have a law to Let Parents Parent and to Let Kids Be Kids. FIC Action and our allies are already hard at work on one.
Last month, FIC Action president Peter Wolfgang appeared on the Lee Elci Show to alert the wider public about this issue. This week, Peter appeared on the Gary Byron Show. And on Tuesday night, Peter testified at a forum of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, asking them to support our bill.
