An effort to help low-income students and their families escape public schools that don't serve them has been harshly kneecapped by powerful teachers' unions in Connecticut.  This very moderate program is sitting in the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee waiting for a vote.  We need you to contact your legislator who sits on the Committee and ask them to act this week.

HB 5101 will help empower low-income families to access more scholarships and expand their educational opportunities to include private schools - just like Connecticut's wealthier families. But Connecticut's powerful teachers' unions allege racial discrimination in order to protect their power base in Connecticut. Who is really discriminating? It is time for Connecticut legislators to allow a Committee vote to permit innovation that benefits low-income families.

Wealthy families can access educational opportunities of their choice and benefit from tax incentives when they invest in their children’s education. HB 5101 would create a tax-credit that could extend this benefit to low-income families as well.

A tax-credit scholarship program would offer educational opportunities to more than 150,000 of Connecticut’s children, who — with families below 250% of the Federal Poverty line — lack the resources to escape failing schools. Contact your legislator on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee today and ask them for a vote before their Committee deadlines expires on April 4th.

Connecticut, the social welfare state. It’s amazing, we are the Constitution state and our legislators totally look past this fact to begin the socialist trend that cripples a states economy for votes. Sickening.
