New Haven Federation of Teachers President Leslie Blatteau came to Yale's Gaza encampment on Monday, well before it got cleared out on Tuesday morning by police.

She says that because of Yale's "wealth and hoarding of wealth" and the alleged profits it makes off "war and suffering" that the City of New Haven doesn't have a proper tax base off which to support public schools.

Blatteau further alleged that Connecticut still operates on a "racist and classist antiquated model" whereby property taxes are collected in order to fund public education.

She quipped that it might work in wealthy towns like Westport and Greenwich that have mansions and wealthy owners who can be taxed sufficiently to support public education, but claims it doesn't work in towns like New Haven and places the blame squarely on Yale.

She also wanted to let the comrades at the Yale protest know that she's proud that her union signed onto the labor ceasefire back in March, and she wants to see the student activists continue their struggle for peace and human rights in Gaza.

Too bad her union doesn't put more emphasis on academics and less emphasis on activism, especially the kind of activism that is celebrated for its alignment with terror group Hamas.
