Readers who are political junkies know that regardless of one’s viewpoint, political battles make sense. The brutal fight over Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation was about abortion. The funding battles over Medicare and Social Security determine whether the elderly and disabled have comfortable lives.
So why is the Democratic hierarchy so apocalyptic about Elon Musk’s attempt to cull waste and fraud in government? The vast majority of the voters – even Democrats - agree on this.
After all, to the average Democrat, President Trump’s first weeks in office have been a nightmare. He has attacked many Democratic sacred cows – stopping federal and international funding for abortion; crushing the Climate Change agenda by pulling out of the Paris Accords while blocking the funding of EV charging stations; banning the medical treatment of transgender minors; closing the border and publicly humiliating illegal immigrants by shackling them and deporting on military planes; pardoning the J6 protestors, even the violent ones who attacked the police; confirming all Cabinet appointees who are basically wearing MAGA hats during their confirmation hearings; and humiliating President Biden and many top Democratic leaders by revoking their security clearances.
You would think there would be daily riots while Democratic lawyers would be in court every waking hour to reverse these policies. Yes, there have been a few protests in Los Angeles and some judicial restraints have been placed on Trump’s policies, but the Democratic response to these developments has been tepid at best.
But when Elon Musk discovered pork in USAID funding and gained access to the payment system of the US Treasury, the Democratic hierarchy attacked in full fury.
Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer stated:
Nothing screams democracy like having a secret squad of company men pull off a hostile takeover of Americans’ Social Security and tax information in the dead of night. That’s democracy? No openness? No hearings? No discussion?
Fairfield County Congressman Jim Himes said:
“Elon Musk and his interns are treating the private data of Americans with a flippant and reckless disregard,”
The Democrats marched into court and were able to have an Obama-appointed judge, Paul Engelmayer, not only rule that Musk must stop looking at Treasury data but must destroy what he has already collected.
But what did Musk discover? He disclosed that USAID had spent on the following:
And Musk had access to everybody’s private banking and social security data.
Who cares?
A bright teenager can get access to anyone’s banking and social security information.
And does anybody in their right mind believe that $50,000,000 was actually used to buy the Gazans condoms. If this were true, the Gazans wouldn’t have time for terrorist activity.
The more likely scenario is that the $50,000,000 was rerouted. Was it given to politically-connect Hamas leaders in Qatar who then stashed cash into the foreign bank accounts of Democratic politicians via layers of shell corporations?
Elon Musk and a bunch of wiz kids were perusing this data with AI. If this money was used for bribes and graft, they would have found it.
And if this is the case, the Democrats’ instinct for self-preservation will supersede the priorities of their voting base on climate change, abortion rights along with transgender rights and those of illegal immigrants.
We need legislation requiring all public officials to disclose whether they have foreign bank accounts. And Elon Musk must be allowed to go through public expenditures with a fine-toothed comb. Hopefully, Judge Engelmayer will be overruled on appeal.
