Greenwich Democrats made quite an uproar over a fundraiser for Governor DeSantis at a private home in town. They quickly went to name-calling and all the same Orwellian talking points that their party touts nationally. Anyone who disagrees with their way of thinking is a “fascist!” or a “bigot!”
It would be nice to say, “let’s just agree to disagree,” but unfortunately that phrase doesn’t apply in today’s culture wars.
Debates, discussions and even disagreements are invaluable. The right to have an opinion that is different from that of others is what has always made America the free country that it once was. Nowadays the mainstream media is controlling the narrative and anyone who thinks for themselves is unacceptable and labeled unfairly.
What happened to the days where political debates were akin to football trash-talk—you could sit and have a beer with a friend rooting for the other team, enjoy your time together, and there was never a need to burn down buildings to make a point? Now the DNC won’t even have a Presidential Candidate debate, and the true intentions behind that decision are absolutely horrifying.
Now let’s look at the facts regarding Governor Ron DeSantis:
DeSantis is not “banning books”. He’s removing pornographic materials from school libraries.
Florida has taken a stand against pornography and sexual material in the classroom. HB 1557 and HB 1467 further solidify Florida’s commitment to ensuring that content available in schools is appropriate for students. Statute 847.012 has been in law for many years and carries a felony penalty for the distribution of pornographic material to children.
DeSantis is not “anti-LGBTQI+”. He simply thinks discussing sexual orientation and gender identity is unnecessary and inappropriate for a school setting.
Governor DeSantis signed HB 1557, Parental Rights in Education, which reinforced parents’ fundamental rights to make decisions regarding the upbringing of their children. The bill prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through 3rd grade and prohibits instruction that is not age appropriate for students.
DeSantis is not “erasing Black History”. He’s keeping gender identity out of African Studies.
Governor DeSantis signed House Bill (HB) 7, to protect students from woke indoctrination in schools. The bill requires instruction, instructional materials, and professional development in public schools to adhere to principles of individual freedom including that no person is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive just by virtue of his or her race or sex and meritocracy or hard work ethic are not racist but fundamental to the right to pursue success.
HB 7 also expanded instruction of African American History to develop students’ understanding of the ramifications of prejudice and racism. Classroom instruction must educate students on what it means to be a respectful and responsible citizen and encourage tolerance of diversity to protect democratic principles that our country is founded on. Schools are required to teach factual information on topics including African American History and the Holocaust instead of subjective indoctrination that pushes collective guilt.
The same extreme-leftists who call Jews who disagree with them “nazis”, and black people who disagree with them “white supremacists” and gay people who disagree with them “transphobes,” are the people who twist the truth about what Ron DeSantis has done in Florida, and panic that he was welcomed in the town of Greenwich as part of his Presidential campaigning.
Let’s stop the name-calling and start acting with integrity again. Let’s set a respectable example for our children so that they have the ability to generate their own thoughts and ideas, and not be discouraged from expressing them.
