Connecticut mainstream media should be ashamed of themselves.
The brutal murder of New Britain girl Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres Garcia occurred on June 21, 2024 -- a full month before the girl's mother signed a withdrawal form on August 26, 2024, expressing intent to homeschool the girl.
However, from the moment the story broke, Connecticut mainstream media and democrats like State Rep. Liz Linehan painted the tragedy as a homeschooling failure, saying, "another child supposedly being ‘homeschooled’ to cover up her abuse and murder."
Democrats, much like the United Nations, have had homeschooling in their sights for a while now, meeting in secret and hoping to exert more control over parents. They were eager to twist Mimi's story to help promote their homeschooling agenda. And as usual, the Connecticut mainstream media was happy to support the democrat narrative.
The news that Mimi was killed while she was still in public school broke on October 16th.
That didn't stop Hearst-owned newspapers Connecticut Post and CT Insider from sharing a petition on October 19th started by Los Fidel of Bridgeport that demands "accountability" and calls for the creation of “Mimi’s Law” to crack down on homeschooling families.
The CT Mirror, owned by Connecticut News Project, shared the petition on October 20th.
The petition, which has garnered nearly 15k signatures, spreads fake news, saying, "Because Mimi was homeschooled, there was no teacher to notice her absence or her pain."
Mimi was never homeschooled; she was killed BEFORE her mom removed her from public school. The misinformation contained in Los Fidel's change.org post didn't prevent the Post, Insider or Mirror from spreading the petition.
Worse than that, though, is that the person who created the petition, Los Fidel, is a controversial character to say the least.
After Charlie Kirk was assassinated, Los Fidel celebrated with the below post on X.
It's hardly the only controversial post Los Fidel has made, as a quick review of his Facebook shows many offensive posts celebrating Kirk's assassination.
It's not just the social media posts that are troubling about Los Fidel.
In fact other media outlets identify “Los Fidel” as “Carlos Jonathan Burgos.”
His history includes a few brushes with the law, including for drug possession and operating a drug factory, and his alleged involvement in a stabbing and sex offenses.
Don't MSM reporters check things like this before they prop up someone's petition?
Or do they not care about promoting a guy who spread fake news about Mimi being homeschooled, and who also celebrated the brutal murder of a conservative because the petition supported the narrative they wanted to prop up?

My guess is the MSM paid Los Fidel to post his comments and start the petition. The “irony” comment must have been written for him(or by chat gpt), as it doesn’t match his other incoherent, cursing rambles. My goodness, what trash CT has cultivated in it’s citizens(legal?) such as Fidel. He doesn’t strike me as an individual concerned for the welfare of homeschooled children- rather he seems me more like a “predator” of small children! Ugh!!!!!!
