Connecticut State Comptroller Sean Scanlon made a rather eye-opening claim while speaking to his comrades at an Indivisible Connecticut meeting this week.
"I would say 95% of the Republicans in elected office in the state hate Donald Trump and think he is an idiot," claimed Scanlon. "They don't say that publicly because they're terrified to say that."
He hopes "somewhere in his heart" that the Republicans in Washington feel the same way as he alleges the Republicans in Connecticut feel about President Trump because, yes, you guessed it, he's terribly "worried about their souls."
Then Scanlon, who has frequently called for and joined his comrades in protesting Trump, reiterated the assertion that in the Connecticut State Legislature, Trump is hated.

"They don't like him, they think he's bad for them, but they don't say that publicly," Scanlon claims, so they don't catch any flack. It's apparently really "distressing" for Sean watch that alleged behavior.
Scanlon promised a Special Session to "deal with" some of the fallout "created" by Trump.
"There will be things we will have to do to backfill or to meet the needs of people," Scanlon explains, taking relief in the knowledge that Democrats have a comfortable majority, but he doesn't want to take that for granted and allow any MAGA types to take office.
He illustrates the point by sharing a story about how he and his comrades organized in his home town of Guilford when MAGA candidates ran for the Board of Ed. He boasted that by the time they were done with the campaign, that there was "no longer a Republican" serving in the office at all.
As a reminder, Scanlon has been endorsed by the Working Families Party -- the same party that organized to take out establishment democrats in the New York City mayoral primary to ensure a communist would win the democrat nomination.
The Centinal contacted Ben Proto, who was recently re-elected as Chair of the Connecticut GOP, for his reaction to Scanlon's claim that 95% of elected Republicans hated Trump.
"Sean Scanlon is charged with being able to do, at least basic math, in his role as State Comptroller and, his statement calls into question that ability. In fact, it may account for why the financial information put out by his office never seems to jive with reality," Proto said in an email to the Centinal.
"President Trump has shown just how stupid and inept the CT Democrats, including Sean Scanlon, are. With the adoption of the Big Beautiful Bill, President Trump and the Republicans have managed to do for Connecticut, what Democrats have been unable to do for forty years, make CT more affordable," he continued.
"As Forrest Gump said "Stupid is as Stupid does" and the Democrats keep on doing," said Proto.

Meanwhile, Scanlon has been vocal in his complaints about Trump's tariffs, and created fear that tariffs had a high likelihood of sending the country into a recession.
But based on today's reporting, it looks like Scanlon got that wrong.
Per CNBC:
"June saw a surplus of just over $27 billion, following a $316 billion deficit in May. Customs duties totaled about $27 billion for the month, up from $23 billion in May and a 301% gain from June 2024."
Guess it turns out that tariffs actually are helping improve government finances.
