New Haven teachers union president Leslie Blatteau boasted about how her city came together to "decry the murder of Renee Nicole Good" and to "be in solidarity with immigrants, neighbors, organizers, and students who are all part of the resistance."

She promises "we are not all free until we abolish ICE" -- the same goal expressed by Indivisible, MoveOn, ACLU and others in the wake of Good's death.

And she's done with war and billionaires.

It's no surprise that Blatteau, a World History Teacher at Metropolitan Business Academy in New Haven, would be at a protest like that, especially considering her union sponsored a "fundraiser party to MELT ICE" just last month.

About Blatteau

Leslie Blatteau landed in New Haven in 1997 after graduating from Yale University with a degree in history and theatre studies. Additionally, she holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Education from Yale.

She became a social studies teacher in 2007, and earned a 6th Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University in 2014.

Ten years later, in 2024, she was named statewide teacher of the year.

But she's not just a regular social studies teacher.

She's an anti-racist social studies teacher featured by the Anti-Racist Learning Collective -- one of the many radical, Marxist organizations that pushes critical race theory into Connecticut schools -- and she's also celebrated by the Communist Party.

In fact, she's a regular at the Connecticut Communist Party's annual Amistad Awards held in New Haven.

Blatteau had the honor of introducing the "students and teachers who stand in solidarity with one another in the continued fight for justice for immigrants" at the December 13th, 2025 People’s World Amistad Awards.

She's also a former Amistad Award winner herself, having earned the commie prize in 2022.

“We must work to be anti-racist, because if not, we’re perpetuating our country’s racist policies and laws embedded in the history and current practices,” said Blatteau upon accepting her award.

Joelle Fishman, who heads up the Connecticut Communist Party, was more than happy to share the NHFT post about the 2025 awards ceremony, showing their close ties..

Rounding out her socialist creds, Blatteau was also a member of the Connecticut chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The DSA congratulated her in the commie award adbook for "her work on anti-racist curricula and social justice activism" the year she took home the Amistad Award.

Any chance she keeps her social justice activism outside of the classroom?

Or is that the recruiting grounds?
