On June 1, 2023, the FDA quietly announced it had revoked emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine.

Previously, on May 22, 2023, Janssen Biotech Inc., had requested the voluntary withdrawal of the EUA for this vaccine.

According to the statement, the last lots of the vaccine purchased by the US Government expired, there is no demand for new lots of the vaccine, and Janssen does not intend to update the vaccine to handle new variants.

The Janssen Covid-19 vaccine was cited in 72,392 total events in CDC's Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System as of 05/26/2023, so revoking the EUA is long overdue.
