The Greenwich Police Department ("GPD") is investigating a juvenile assault that took place at a party on Friday, November 15th.
The investigation comes after the parent of an elementary school-aged student contacted GPD on Monday to report another elementary-age subject assaulted her child at a local party. The child alleged the other child struck her due to her religious faith.
GPD confirmed that elementary school-aged children attended a party on November 15th where they played a game. During the game, one child was tagged "out" and became upset with being called "out" and struck the victim in the face. Several other children witnessed the incident.
When asked why the student hit her, the victim said the other student blamed it on her Jewish faith.
GPD is still interviewing witnesses, and cannot provide further comments at this time.
However, GPD said it takes all reports of crime extremely seriously, particularly those that involve harm to individuals and elements of hate, and it's committed to addressing hate crimes.
It's worth reminding that earlier in the year, Greenwich First Selectman Camillo established a thought police board to monitor antisemitism and hate speech.
The committee most recently met on October 30th and discussed efforts at the public and private schools to address antisemitism and hate.
