Here's some important information for any Connecticut voter who wants to participate in the Presidential Preference Primary on April 2, 2024.

If a voter is registered as a member of one political party (e.g., Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, etc.), but wants to switch their affiliation to vote in a different party’s primary, they must change their registration 90 days in advance, which will be January 2, 2024, for the Presidential Preference Primary.

“It is important for voters to understand how the process works and not lose out on an opportunity to participate because of missing important deadlines,” said Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas. “I hope this reminder encourages voters to check their voter registration to make sure they are ready to vote in April, as voters can sometimes be inadvertently unsubscribed from a party, be new to the state and unfamiliar with the election laws or just not think about the Presidential Preference Primary until it is too late to make the change.”

Only registered members of a political party that is nominating a presidential candidate can vote in the PPP election.

If voters are not registered with a party in Connecticut, they are known as “unaffiliated” and must register with a party by March 15, 2024, if they want to participate in the PPP.

You can look up your voter registration and find other important information about voting on the Secretary of State's Voter Information portal.
