Even though self-proclaimed time traveller Arthur Augustyn dropped his first campaign video on April Fool's Day, he was completely serious about running against democrat Caroline Simmons for Stamford Mayor this November.

But don't worry!

"You don’t need to believe in time travel to believe THE FUTURE IS BRIGHTER," wrote Augustyn, who was a democrat until he re-registered as unaffiliated in 2022, and then as a Republican in 2024.

In fact, he served as deputy campaign manager for Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons in 2021, and as former Stamford Mayor David Martin's director of communications.

"Stamford’s future is held back by fear and dysfunction, but this is fixable. By breaking down our broken system, valuing people as our greatest resource, and embracing the risks necessary for improvement, we can unlock the brighter future our city deserves," says Augustyn. "These problems make Stamford unaffordable and puts our future at risk."

He promised the future is coming, and it's brighter.

"I’m not a politician. I’m an artist. I’m a writer who happened to serve as Stamford’s Director of Communication from 2018 to 2021," wrote the son of Polish immigrants who came to the US to escape a communist regime. "I’m running for mayor because my experience at the Government Center showed me something troubling."

One of the problems, as Augustyn sees it, is Stamford's "potential is being held back by a destructive worldview: anti-social nihilism" which he describes as the belief that "people make the city worse, nothing can be trusted, and the only change possible is exploitation."

He says this worldview only serves to make people miserable and act on fear.

That's why he's pitching pro-social conservatism as the alternative, centered on the belief that people are the greatest resource, but without the DEI nonsense.

His policies haven't been released yet, but should be released over the next two months, so there's not much more to go on, other than the video of course and his bio.

According to Joe Andreana, the Stamford Republican Town Committee Chair, Augustyn has not engaged with the RTC about his campaign, at least not yet.

In the meantime, you can follow Augustyn on his website and on social media (X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube).

Tip o' the cap to the kid.

His perspective might still lean Left, but the energy, optimism and creativity are commendable (coming from a committed cynic, no less).
.
Connecticut's Republicans should take a note.
