The Pride and Respect for Identity and Sexuality Mission (PRISM) and the Naugatuck YMCA are holding the Festival of Rainbows celebration on July 1 from 4pm - 7pm on Naugatuck Green.
The event will feature drag performers, including Summer Orlando who has appeared all over Connecticut for pride month events, including drag queen story hour at East Hampton Library.
PRISM holds a monthly support group meeting at the Naugatuck YMCA for parents, youth and allies of the LGBTQ community. The group has also shared information from the highly controversial Trevor Project, which has been accused of using its Trevor Chatline as more or less a dating service for adults to reach LGBTQ children.
In 2018, PRISM promoted a fundraiser for a 17-year-old biological female, Kai, who wanted to surgically remove her breasts after taking 14 months of hormone replacement therapy (testosterone). Kai indicated that the biggest source of dysphoria came from having breasts, and did not want to have to spend yet another summer in a chest binder. Hence the desire for surgery.
The poster for the Festival Of Rainbows event specifically states that the Y is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Is the YMCA aware that PRISM has promoted the controversial Trevor Group to children, as well as a Top Surgery fundraiser for a teenager? Is that fitting within the mission of "youth development, healthy living and social responsibility"?
