After vaccinated CT State Senator Matt Lesser tested positive for Covid-19, Hartford was very quick to reinstitute unscientific mask and covid testing requirements for visitors, but just to the third floor.
The new requirements - which will be revisited on June 1st - were easily put into place without any visible pushback from Senate Republicans, either. Not a peep!
CT Speaker of the House Matt Ritter said that while no one in the House tested positive for covid, the House would essentially take the same measures as the Senate.
"If we had a similar outbreak we'd take the same precautions or we would have people vote from their offices. We will abide by all the rules upstairs and we'll see what they're going through. People still get it. We did contact tracing the best we could, but so far so good," said Ritter.
Meanwhile, the new third floor rules have had a stifling effect on participation from the public and from lobbyists. The halls are quite literally empty today.
That means the Senate can essentially operate without interference.
There is no better illustration of how the Connecticut Senate is a club than this - a club with no accountability, especially in light of the supermajority in Hartford.
